India and Japan have jointly agreed to use indigenously manufactured high-speed trains and a globally interoperable signalling system for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project.
The decision was taken after Japanese suppliers failed to meet the required delivery timelines.
India aims to begin testing its bullet trains by mid-2027, with commercial operations on the Surat-Vapi section targeted for August 2027.
