Now on @sciam: Behold! These are the sharpest images of the sun's surface ever obtained, and they reveal something *wild*: never-before-seen whirlpools of plasma called Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities that are fundamental to solar energy flow.

ALT A countdown graphic to the 2024 total solar eclipse on April 8th. The image features a classroom setting, where CATE 2024 members are learning about eclipses. Text in the image: 7 days to go! What is a citizen science project? Citizen science projects are collaborations between scientists and interested members of the public. Through these collaborations, volunteers (known as citizen scientists) have helped make thousands of important scientific discoveries. Citizen CATE 2024 consists of over 150 citizen scientists from all along the path of totality.
