Another #cyclone is going to make landfall in the south coast of #Bangladesh this evening. Great Danger Signal No. 10 already announced by the government. @RESCUEorg and its partners are prepared with emergency aid kits to support the affected communities.

Stunning piece in @nytimes about the evolving conflict in Myanmar. I was in northern Thailand in March & met people too scared to speak out about what is happening back home. The bravery of the people featured in this piece can't be understated: nytimes.com/2024/04/20/world…

Major flooding across Afghanistan has affected over 1,500 families. Many have lost their homes and livelihoods are threatened, with more flooding predicted to reach other areas of the country over the next week. The IRC is assessing humanitarian needs.

Returns of hundreds of thousands of Afghans from Pakistan, most without jobs or homes & just before winter, set to deepen Afghanistan's already-severe humanitarian crisis. “The mass arrivals couldn’t have happened at a worse time” @UnhcrZulu unhcr.org/news/stories/force…

Thankfully this happened the day @RESCUEorg Mobile Health Team were visiting and the doctor could treat the burns quickly. The child was still screaming in pain the next day. The village is at least a 3 hour drive from the nearest town - let alone the nearest hospital.

The world has a responsibility towards Afghan people, who have suffered enormously after decades of conflict largely instigated by western powers. We should not and must not look away.

"We've seen up to 200,000 people arriving since the start of October, many with nothing but the clothes on their back." The IRC's @NancyJDent told @Reuters about the dire situation of thousands of people crossing from Pakistan to Afghanistan. reuters.com/video/watch/idRW…

I’m in Bamiyan, where winter is quickly setting in. Families like this one don’t have enough to eat and barely any water. This little girl’s cheeks are sunburned and chapped from the cold, dry air. @RESCUEorg 💛🖤💛

The scenes at #Torkham are beyond belief. Up to 3,000 FAMILIES per day arriving from Pakistan, ripped from their homes with nowhere to go. 💔
‘We decided it’s better to just leave than to be dishonoured and arrested," an 18-year-old Afghan refugee told @newhumanitarian in Torkham after leaving Pakistan ahead of Islamabad's Nov deadline to deport 'all illegal foreigners' thenewhumanitarian.org/news-…

What does it look like to work in a crisis setting? For many humanitarians, it means facing the same tough conditions as the people you’re there to support. Abdul Khaliq Sediqi is a Communications Coordinator for the IRC in Afghanistan. Despite having a home in Kabul, he chooses to stay overnight with people displaced by the earthquakes near Herat, sleeping in tents as temperatures plummet. “Most of my colleagues say, ‘We don’t have other options, but you do. Why don’t you go to your home?’ They say, ‘We know how important your role is in supporting the team, but your life matters.’ “But what I say is that being a real humanitarian is not easy. It is better to stay with your organization in such a crucial time, and you have to stay with people who need your help.”
