It’s time for real solutions for people seeking safety.
As parliament debates the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, the government has an opportunity to protect those fleeing conflict and persecution. 1/3
Doubling down on tougher migration & border security measures alone won’t solve the problems that force people into the hands of smuggling gangs.
Without safe alternatives, vulnerable people will continue to take dangerous routes as their only option for seeking protection. 2/3

As winter conditions intensify across the Middle East, families in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria are struggling to survive.
Heavy rains, plummeting temperatures and widespread destruction from hostilities have left millions dangerously exposed. Here are some of their stories. 👇
While the shift in power has brought hope to many in Syria, millions are still displaced across the country.
"We burned our belongings to stay warm. I search through waste for anything I can find to heat my sick parents, but their condition is worsening." - Fatima, 35.
We call on governments, donors, and all parties to conflict to take swift, decisive action to ensure the most vulnerable are protected, including:
1. A lasting end to hostilities and conflict
2. Increased funding
3. Unfettered humanitarian access

Almost 3 years into the war in Ukraine, the 18-month extension scheme opening on 4 February offers a glimmer of hope for refugees in the UK.
Yet the ongoing conflict at home and uncertainty about their long-term status here has left many feeling anxious about their future. 👇
Without a permanent solution, Ukrainians are also at greater risk of becoming homeless due to factors like:
- Breakdowns in relationships with hosts
- Difficulty finding guarantors or funds for tenancy deposits
- Language barriers
- Challenges in navigating UK housing systems
The 18-month extension is an opportunity for the government to help Ukrainians transition into more stable statuses in the UK, ensuring they maintain access to essential services, integration support, and safeguards against forced returns.

"The fragility of the situation in Lebanon continues to place already vulnerable civilians at high risk. To ensure a genuine path to recovery, it is essential that all parties comply with the extended ceasefire agreement in good faith."

We support @APPGRefugees in championing safe routes for people fleeing conflict and persecution.
Most refugees seeking safety in the UK have no choice but to make dangerous journeys. The government must act now and develop safe routes to prevent further tragedy in the Channel.
🔊NEW: APPG on Refugees report released today. 16 MPs and Peers have endorsed the findings which recommend smashing the gangs must go hand in hand with improvements to safe and legal routes for refugees to reduce channel deaths.

"Deaths in the Channel are preventable. When refugees are given a safe option, they will choose it over dangerous routes. We hope the Government will heed these recommendations."
