Old Tradition, New Approach to Finance π $ABX
The @NYSE is steeped in tradition that goes back to the 1870s. Trading was first signaled by a Chinese gong, replaced by a brass bell in 1903, when the exchange moved into its current home. Today the bells help ensure no trades happen before the open or after the close.
Ringing the bell comes with its own rituals. Ringers are presented with an engraved medallion and a certificate of listing. They also sign the exchangeβs distinguished guest book, an honor shared by VIP guests dating back decades.
