The Space & Defense Update is LIVE from the @NYSE
@itsmoislam and @JackKuhr are joined today by:
– @WillBruey, CEO of @VardaSpace
– @DanMagy, CEO of @Firestorm_Labs
– @mrtirman, CEO of @BedrockOcean
We're digging into:
– Varda's $251M Series D, how its reentry capsules are being used for hypersonic testing, and what's next for manufacturing in orbit.
– How Firestorm's xCell moves the factory floor to the front lines, building and repairing drones and parts where they're needed instead of waiting on supply chains.
– How Bedrock's autonomous ocean mapping works, why sea mines and subsea cables are back in focus, and where maritime intelligence goes next.

Full interview with Firestorm CEO @DanMagy at the @NYSE on drones and its xCell shipping-container 3D printing factor for the edge.
"We figured out basically how to run these things in really hot, humid, cold environments with this kind of expandable 20-foot shipping container."
"So you basically load in a CAD, or you design your own part. You hit print."
"And I could literally train you two in less than two hours how to run the system to about an 80% competency. And then when the parts come out, you basically can assemble things at the point of need."
We covered:

Firestorm’s expeditionary manufacturing capabilities relieve the burden on the warfighter.
They don’t have to think twice about expending a system when they have the means to repair or replace it themselves.
Come tour the xCell outside of AUSA this year! DM us for an invite to the showcase and happy hours.
What if the factory floor can move to the frontlines?
The result: faster production, lower costs, and less expensive systems sidelined due to missing parts.
Firestorm’s xCell moves industrial-grade manufacturing capabilities forward, giving warfighters the right to repair and iterate critical technologies.
Not only can it produce low-cost UAVs in hours, it can print repair parts to legacy systems that would otherwise be inoperable for months.

BREAKING: The U.S. military is now 3D printing attack helicopter parts at sea.
@Firestorm_Labs successfully designed and manufactured a critical droop stop aboard the USS Essex after rough seas put the helicopter’s rotor system at risk.
This points to a broader potential shift in the DoW supply chain, with sustainment moving closer to the point of need. Systems like xCell put additive manufacturing in a shipping container, giving units the ability to produce parts forward and react to changing conditions without waiting on the traditional supply chain.
Happy Firestorm Day to all who celebrate🔥
One year ago, on the day of our new HQ ribbon-cutting, the City of San Diego officially proclaimed September 15th as Firestorm Labs Day.
We're honored to contribute to the San Diego tech ecosystem by building capability that supports the warfighters.
Thank you @MayorToddGloria and everyone who has supported our journey.
During xCell’s two-week deployment at sea, Firestorm designed and manufactured a critical component on-demand for an attack helicopter: a droop stop that helps protect the aircraft’s main rotor and blades from damage.
While these helicopters are routinely transported by ship, they had never operated from a Navy deck with their rotors mounted. During this deployment, they did so in some of the heaviest seas off Southern California in five years, exposing the rotor system to constant waves, wind, and deck movement.
The sailors and marines on the ship turned to Firestorm’s xCell to print a component where and when it was needed, preventing potentially millions of dollars of damage.
That’s the power of expeditionary manufacturing: keeping critical systems in the fight instead of waiting months for repair parts to arrive.
This was conducted aboard the USS Essex and facilitated by @NPS_Monterey's PIA partner FLEETWERX.
Firestorm is a proud partner of @NavyAthletics at @NavalAcademy.
Good luck to the Midshipmen in their home-opener this weekend.

Firestorm was thankful for the opportunity to showcase our expeditionary manufacturing capabilities and mission-adaptable UAS to @ASWCTDoddFather at Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) 26-3.
This tier 1 experimentation event focused on contested logistics, a problem Firestorm's xCell mobile microfactory was designed to solve.
Building attritable UAS is only one component of a larger ecosystem. Being able to self-sustain repair parts to mission-critical systems at the edge is what turns capability into sustained readiness.
Thank you the Office Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering for the opportunity. #OUSWRE

Nothing beats seeing capabilities tested against real conditions with operators in the loop - and that's exactly what happened at T-REX 26-3 this week. This is how we get the best tech to the warfighter faster.
