Very cool. Keep in mind theres new JSON parsing Sagan can do. We do a lot of similar stuff. We use NXLog instead (its pretty nice) no the Windows side. ELK for backend searching. Sagan for alerting...

WEF probably is the most flexible and easier to accept by the people managing the endpoints, NXLog of winlogbeat on the collector to send it forward, of which NXLog probably is more flexible if you want to change the final receiver in the end (not tight to ELK or Splunk)

How? sysmon How to ship logs? try nxlog for windows, syslog for nix Where? Try Graylog to get started

I think I’m going to start giving out hunt advice to make red teams better. BLUE: log all process create events centrally and hunt on common LOLbins like “net”. Practice to get your timing window close to zero and crush RED.

Sidecar manages NXLog, which starts and pulls eve.json. That gets pushed to a GELF input on Graylog. I took the initial raw event that was pulled in, selected the message, created a JSON extractor without changing any defaults and this is the vanilla result. Fucking slick!!!

Windows Event log is great I suggest you create your own event source in the windows logs like sysmon does. Consider producing logs in json as most SIEM can injest. We use nxlog to ship events. Alternative ship logs to tcp port in json or cef.Happy to test if you have a beta
