#NUFC won, meaning we will see a barrage of support for Jaissle from "fans" who quite frankly, don't know what they are looking at. #NUFC didn't deserve to win that, #CPFC created more and had the better chances (mainly from set pieces). #NUFC now sit bottom of the xPTS table.

Aladji Bamba was phenomenal during his time at Monaco, so it's understandable as to how/why they signed him. You can criticise signing on the basis of him only playing 990 minutes of senior football as that's a very small sample size and you can maybe criticise the fee (but his performances were that good). The biggest criticism would be the number of CMs #NUFC signed/now have at the club. You don't sign Steur, then Bamba, then Gonzalez while also having Joelinton, Ramsey, Willock, Miley competing for "two" positions, that's poor squad management.

The "professionals" in charge of #NUFC, during a summer of rebuild, thought it was a good idea to: • Sign a second choice GK, Ewen Jaouen for £18.5m + £5.5m. • Sign Bazoumana Touré, a LW who was clearly not at the required level for £42m (a fee that buys you best in class). • Pay £8.4m in compensation for Matthias Jaissle, who is clearly, nowhere near good enough to manage anywhere close to Premier League level. • Sanction the £51m signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo, another LW, after having just spent a significant amount on Bazoumana Touré and awarding Harvey Barnes a new contract, all the while not having a specialised CAM in the squad despite Matthias Jaissle wanting to play with a CAM and not having the necessary quality at RW (Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy). • Signing Matias Fernandez-Pardo, with the promise/view to utilise him as a CF, despite him being a LW. • Deciding against selling Jacob Murphy and Joe Willock for a combined total of ~£30m in order to fund arrivals for the clear and obvious deficiencies in the squad (CAM and RW). These are the idiots in charge of my football club...

Attacked for correctly backing a manager that had the team 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th in the xPoints table in his 4 full seasons with the club, after a significant portion of the online fanbase was calling for his sacking. Attacked for correctly pointing out errors in the club's transfer activity, specifically the arrivals of Touré, Fernandez-Pardo, Jaouen and Bamba, not signing a specialised RW or CAM and overpaying on most of the purchases, after a significant portion of the online fanbase were suggesting the club had "won" the transfer window. Attacked for correctly assessing that Jaissle was out of his depth and not good enough when the team were still unbeaten and a significant portion of the online fanbase were praising and lauding him due to the results, ignoring the performances. I'm now seeing a lot of the online fanbase criticising and doubting the quality of the team/squad? Trying to suggest that they aren't good enough? That Jaissle doesn't have the squad to implement his "system"... That "system" being playing a 3-0-7 formation and playing aimless long balls to the likes of Fernandez-Pardo, Wissa, Willock and Barnes... Despite their errors in the transfer market, that were incredibly obvious and easy to avoid, Newcastle have a "top ten" quality team. I would ask anyone who thinks differently to list all of the players, from each non "big six" team, who get into Newcastle's best XI? #NUFC

My strongest Newcastle XI, both Osula/Wissa and Steur/Miley are interchangeable positionally. I personally think a 4-3-3 would be a better fit but we'll stick Jaissle's preference for 4-2-3-1. #NUFC

This was obvious to people who know football, without the need for hindsight, let's see how long it takes you, someone who doesn't know football, to catch on about Touré (poor quality) and Fernandez-Pardo (waste of a signing). #NUFC xitter.cf/NUFCdiscussion/status/…
Newcastle (#NUFC) transfer window assessment and thoughts. In: Matias Fernandez-Pardo, £51m, 6/10 Nico González, £48m + £4m, 9/10 Bazoumana Touré, £42m, 3/10 Aladji Bamba, £30m + £5.5m, 6/10 Amar Dedic, £29.5m, 7/10 Lukas Hornicek, £25.7m, 9/10 Sean Steur, £20m + £3m, 10/10 Ewen Jaouen, £18.5m + £5.5m, 6/10 Out: Sandro Tonali, £92m + £8m, 10/10 Bruno Guimarães, £75m, 7/10 Anthony Gordon, £69.3m, 7/10 Nick Woltemade, £3.5m (loan), 5/10 Kieran Trippier, £0 Emil Krafth, £0 Matt Targett, £0 John Ruddy, £0 Total spend: £264.7m + £18m (£282.7m) Total income: £239.8m + £8m (£247.8m) Net: £34.9m Matias Fernandez-Pardo Incredibly difficult transfer to judge given the player has played in multiple positions for Lille and because we don’t know where/how he fits in for Newcastle, you would suspect in the CAM/SS position, which does negatively impact my assessment of the transfer (not player). Newcastle had a clear, much needed strategy this window, to target the “best” 18-24 year old players on the market within a £20m - £40m price range (I still think that’s too expensive) and to go and break that strategy, to smash through that set price range to sign a LW turned CF, when the club already have the likes of Barnes, Touré, Wissa and Osula on the books and are in dire need of a specialised CAM and RW is to me, bizarre. It’s quite obvious that this was the intended Anthony Gordon replacement, meaning the plan, certainly at the start of the window, would’ve been to play him at that LW position. In addition to that, Fernandez-Pardo’s main attribute is his running ability, his ability to carry the ball, now that may suit Jaissle’s system but is that going to be as effective in the CAM position (if he plays there)? Don’t Newcastle already have that in abundance? Who is going to be that player who can/will create with their passing? Going back to the price, it’s incredibly expensive, you can buy best in class players for <£50m routinely, so for this to be considered good value, he has to come in and be best in class… I think ~£35m is a more appropriate valuation for a player of his ability, meaning the club have overpaid ~£15m which is significant. Messy, messy transfer, significantly overpriced, breached our transfer strategy/price range, intended to play as a (and is a) LW, if he does play at LW that makes the Bazoumana Touré transfer worse than it already is and if played elsewhere, we’re effectively playing him out of his natural position and ripping up our initial plan for the squad. Nico González Exactly what Newcastle have needed for a number of years, the profile of player that should have been signed instead of Sandro Tonali in the summer of 2023, a specialised, (near) elite level DM, a player that I thought would be out of Newcastle’s reach this summer, although slightly overpriced (£5m - £10m), this is a player that’s worth stepping away from your strategy to sign. Bazoumana Touré A player who is solely reliant on their pace and crossing ability, extremely one dimensional and at £42m you should be looking to buy a complete, best in class type player, for example, Maghnes Akliouche, Christos Tzolis, Lee Kang-In and Mika Godts, all who have moved this summer for similar (or less) money. Although it’s early in the season, it speaks volumes that Harvey Barnes has been the preferred option at LW, who is also extremely limited. Aladji Bamba Again, incredibly difficult to judge given the limited amount of senior football he has played, how extraordinary his data is/was (which doesn’t lie), how well he played at Monaco compared to just how poor he performed during pre-season and that he’s yet to feature in a competitive game (14 minute cameo aside) for Newcastle. Jury’s out, but last season he was elite at all aspects of the game when he played. Amar Dedic Well-rounded, versatile, very good at all aspects of the game, by all means an improvement on Tino Livramento (who should have been sold this summer), I believe the club overpaid “slightly” on this transfer (£5m - £7.5m). Lukas Hornicek What difference he has made, his presence/performances further highlight just how much Nick Pope and company hindered the overall performance of the team last season. Sean Steur Exceptional. His passing ability is near unmatched in the squad, it’s a little disappointing that Jaissle operates with a double pivot meaning his minutes are going to be reduced (probably a good thing). Although it’s difficult compare because it’s a two vs three man midfield system, I think Steur/Miley and González is a much more functional midfield than Guimarães, Tonali and Joelinton. These are the kind of signings, at this price point, that we should be making as opposed to the Touré signing. Ewen Jaouen Similar to the Fernandez-Pardo signing, the assessment has been impacted by the arrival of Lukas Hornicek, rather than the quality of the player. Again, it seems incredibly bizarre to spend £18.5m + £5.5m on a second choice, 20 year old goalkeeper before signing a first choice, 24 year old goalkeeper, at £25.7m, all in the same window when the squad as a whole is going through a serious transition phase. The squad would have benefited from those funds being used elsewhere (CAM or RW). Sales Newcastle have been fantastic sellers this window, although it was difficult losing Bruno Guimarães, at (nearly) 29 years old it’s a sale that a well run club should be making, it just happened to fall as the club was going through this transition phase, £75m is a really good fee (Guimarães is only worth ~£45m) but I do feel the club could have squeezed more out of Arsenal/any buying club, similarly with the Anthony Gordon transfer (worth ~£37.5m), good price but feel the club could have pushed for a bigger fee. I can’t quite fathom how the club has managed to sell Sandro Tonali (worth ~£40m, maybe less) at £92m + £8m, if sold I was expecting £80m to be the very top end fee the club would receive, hats off. Summary This transfer window really does rely on where Matias Fernandez-Pardo plays and how well he does, despite that, I still think it’s criminal that the club, knowing that Jaissle wants to play with CAM and knowing the deficiencies the squad has at RW, has failed to address these areas. All three positions behind the striker are severely lacking in quality, not one of them is capable of passing the ball and we keep failing to address it. Although I like the players and profiles Newcastle have targeted this summer (barring Touré) and even though we have signed eight players, I still feel the squad is short in quality, specifically in the attacking midfield areas. To spend a total of £264.7m + £18m and still have to rely on Anthony Elanga and Jacob Murphy as our RWs is abysmal. Plenty to be excited about but the overall score for this window is: 6/10

I wonder how long the club will wait before they sack Jaissle? It was glaringly obvious weeks ago that he is completely out of his depth, surely the club are aware, right? It's just prolonging the inevitable and making the next manager's job all the more difficult, the longer you keep Jaissle in post. The promoted teams are picking up points, the rest of us aren't going to be "propped up" by them. Newcastle (Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Sunderland) are at a real risk of being relegated, this is no time for caution, there needs to be action from the board. They need to be ruthless and pull the trigger while the season can still be salvaged. #NUFC xitter.cf/NUFCdiscussion/status/…

Can you tell my why buying a LW (and Fernandez-Pardo is a LW) for ~£60m, a player whose main attribute is their ability to run with/carry the ball, something which #NUFC already have in abundance, while also having have Barnes and Touré (two LWs) on the books would be a better signing than El Khannouss? A specialised CAM, who is elite in terms of their ability to create using their passing, two things which #NUFC don't have, for ~£45m?

Jack Grealish is so good, then you remember the ~£2m loan fee, the ~£225,000 a week salary, the agent fees and then you realise this is the second year Everton have done this deal... You're looking at ~£25m for two seasons, with no return... Free agent though next summer #NUFC!

Newcastle were not forced to sell Elliot Anderson (or Yankuba Minteh), they chose to. The club were fully aware of the PSR rules and their financial position but continued to needlessly overspend/overpay on incomings, while refusing to sell other players who were of interest to other clubs. It was a choice. Stop pretending otherwise. Newcastle could have continued to compete, but again, made poor recruitment choices, overpaying and/or buying dross, continuously. If Newcastle had "adopted" the Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth model sooner, they would still be competing at the top end of the table. I think it's worth pointing out that the club are still failing to implement that model. Those clubs would not go out and spend £264.7m + £18m (£282.7m) on 8 players (£35m average)... #NUFC xitter.cf/LukeEdwardsTele/status…
Newcastle went from relegation candidates to Champions League in one year. They spent a lot of money to transform that relegation squad into one that won the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League twice in three years. They had no quality players to sell, it was a bad team, so… They were forced to sell players they didn’t want to lose to comply with PSR rules, including their best academy player in Elliot Anderson for £35m as it was “pure profit.” But it is the wages that really kill them. Newcastle can’t offer the same wages at the Big six with their ingrained financial advantage. SCR has baked this in, So when they get an elite talent, they can’t keep hold of them. Hence Isak, Gordon, Tonali and Bruno all leaving in the space of 12 months. All but one of them went to a domestic rival. Newcastle “competed” for a short period of time and then, like Aston Villa, they were forced to sell or players demanded to leave. And this process is now repeated every summer. Well run clubs like Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth are perfect to keep the eco system running. They identify and develop players for the richer clubs to buy. It’s their business model and it’s pretty much the same business model #nufc have had to switch to now. There has always been a food chain in football in my lifetime but that food chain is now enshrined by the financial rules Unregulated spending is not what we need either. Nobody serious is saying that. No club should just be able to spend what they want based on the wealth of their owners, but the rules need to be looked at. This isn’t a dig at @RorySmith either. He has raised another strand to the debate in his usual eloquent style. I’m just offering my view.
