Just listened to this episode of Desert Island Discs, what a lovely memory from surgeon Dr David Nott of Her Late Majesty the Queen and her corgis
Replying to @JenCarsonTaylor
Queen Elizabeth and her amazing humanity, sensitivity and kindness. A surgeon who worked for years on the frontline in wartime areas returned to Britain from the ‘carnage in Aleppo’. He was invited to a luncheon at Buckingham Palace. Seated next to the Queen, she asked him something and he couldn’t reply. He simply couldn’t say anything at all. His PTSD was overwhelming. The Queen sensed his trauma. She gently called for the biscuit tin and the corgis, who quickly ran to her under the table. For the next few minutes during the luncheon, he and the Queen stroked and fed biscuits to her corgis. No one else was aware; just the two of them, silently with her dogs. A touching and healing kindness from the Queen. He tells the story so movingly on Desert Island Discs — voted one of the most popular episodes of all time. Absolutely worth a listen. bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07djzy…

The rights to freedom of expression and association are guaranteed in Zimbabwe’s constitution. Parts of today’s new legislation have serious implications for Zimbabweans’ ability to exercise those rights without fear, and for Zimbabwe Govt’s efforts at international reengagement.

The UK’s Annual Human Rights Report for 2022 is out today. Ahead of Zimbabwe's elections, it’s more important than ever that all can enjoy their fundamental rights to peaceful assembly, association and expression. The safety of all who defend these rights is equally important.
The @FCDOGovUK has published our 2022 Annual Human Rights & Democracy Report. It details how we stand up for the marginalised & repressed across our human rights work. The UK holds an unwavering conviction that the #humanrights of every person matter. gov.uk/government/publicatio…

Loved spending #IWD with inspiring women in Vic Falls: from #Chevening scholars promoting rights in the NPA and innovation in tourism to Vic Falls’ first female councillors and a young British entrepreneur setting up a feedstock business. All power to these wonderful women!

The UK supports demining operations in Zimbabwe. Through our partners @TheHALOTrust and @MAGsaveslives, over 8.5 million square metres of land is #minefree and safe to use. Recently in Ganganyama Village, 🇿🇼 we saw first-hand the impact 🇬🇧 support has had.
