🌍 International Day of Epidemic Preparedness!
Epidemics and pandemics have become a stark reality, especially in East Africa, where emerging diseases like Marburg virus, Dengue fever, MPOX, and a new one Dinga Dinga in Uganda are continuing to challenge & Puzzle public health systems.
Major challenges in the region have included:
💉 Limited funding for epidemic preparedness and response initiatives.
🧪 Weak health infrastructure to detect, prevent, and manage outbreaks.
🌍 Cross-border transmission risks due to high regional mobility.
📢 Low public awareness about prevention and preparedness.
🤝 Inadequate collaboration between governments, stakeholders, and communities.
It's a call to action for better investments in health systems, robust epidemic preparedness plans, and regional cooperation to combat these threats effectively!
💡 What do you think is the most urgent step to improve epidemic preparedness in East Africa?
1️⃣ Increase funding for health infrastructure
2️⃣ Promote public awareness campaigns
3️⃣ Strengthen regional partnerships
4️⃣ Invest in early disease detection systems
Share your thoughts! Together, we can build a healthier, safer future. 🌟

Which approach would most effectively transform Kenya's Epidemic Preparedness and Response (EPR) framework?
1️⃣ Proactive Crisis Teams: Deploy multidisciplinary teams at county and national levels for real-time response.
2️⃣ Tech-Driven Surveillance: Invest in AI and digital tools for early outbreak detection and data-driven decisions.
3️⃣ Community-First Engagement: Build partnerships with local influencers and leaders to combat misinformation and drive awareness.
4️⃣ Policy Reform: Advocate for a permanent EPR budget line and integrate crisis management into national health strategies.

Q2: From your perspective, what is the most important thing needed (the secret sauce) for an effective advocacy campaign? #GHAIPartnersChat
A5) Advocacy has boosted awareness around emergency preparedness, especially in counties & underserved communities. By engaging with the public & media esp community Radios, we’ve sparked action on public health readiness in Kenya.
We’ve also built a strong coalition of stakeholders—gov agencies, NGO's ( @HennetKenya @GenerationGuid1 )health pros, and community leaders. This collaboration has allowed us to create unified, impactful strategies for EPR.
Community engagement has been a focus. We’ve worked to build trust, using culturally sensitive messaging to ensure local preparedness plans fit specific needs and encourage active participation. #GHAIpartnerschat
Q5: Reflecting on this past year, what role has advocacy played in achieving the major milestones for public health? #GHAIPartnersChat
