@nutshal @JamwalNidhi

We now exploit this system to ask a fundamental question, how do near-neutral sequence variants alter the propensity for AMR evolution. We show that epistasis between standing polymorphisms and adaptive mutations are a powerful force determining the evolution of resistance.

This work may help explain why certain bacterial strains are more often associated with AMR variants than others. Thanks for @India_Alliance @ANRFIndia and @IISERPune for financially supporting this work.

Our work on gene duplication as a transient mode of resistance acquisition covered by Saral AI. Do take a look at the video and the original article here: elifesciences.org/articles/9…
Our next Saral AI video with Dr. Nishad Matange explores how E. coli adapts to antibiotics under trimethoprim stress and what drives resistance over time. Watch now: youtube.com/watch?v=jnrYVc-A… @DBTIndia @wellcometrust @rajesh_gokhale @jarottingen @ANRFIndia @IISERPune

#IntheNews In another feature, the Indian Express published the work of Dr @NMatange! His team’s study reveals how E. coli survives antibiotics by temporarily copying key genes, buying time to evolve permanent resistance. 🔗: tinyurl.com/2r6tukkf
