New Jersey’s Nuclear Power Task Force is getting to work. Nuclear already generates more than 40% of our electricity and 80% of our clean power. We’ve lifted a 50-year moratorium on new nuclear development and signed the Power NJ Act to pave the way for more nuclear power with strong protections for ratepayers. And we’re doing it the right way – any new nuclear project must pass rigorous review by our Board of Public Utilities and Economic Development Authority and prove its benefits before breaking ground. Now, experts from government, industry, and labor will help shape what comes next as we work to expand power generation, lower costs, and keep New Jersey competitive for the long term.

We’re facing a utility cost crisis and millions across our state are bearing the brunt. That is why I took action – to fix past mistakes that have driven utility costs out of control and deliver New Jerseyans real relief.

Tomorrow’s energy affordability depends on the decisions we make today. With legislation I just signed, we’re building the clean energy supply New Jersey needs to drive down costs, power the jobs of the future, and expand opportunities for generations to come.

Through actions my Administration has taken over our first six months in office, New Jersey ratepayers are projected to save more than $1 billion annually. We will continue using every tool at our disposal to lower costs for families and build a more affordable and reliable energy future for New Jersey.

For too long, New Jersey families have paid the price for poor oversight, outdated policies, and rising demand on our electric grid by unchecked actors. With the legislation I just signed, we're putting money back into people's pockets while holding utility companies and large data centers accountable through stronger oversight and smarter incentives that will drive down costs and strengthen our grid.

Last night's storms caused severe damage across many parts of New Jersey. Many people are without power. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is coordinating with utility companies to help restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
