Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) full-throttle hug and easy cafe lean with Rahul screamed “brother from another mother”.
Next day’s metro ride with PM Narendra Modi was more “respectful two-feet gap, both staring straight ahead like the tracks were fascinating.”
So if one day it’s warm tiramisu smiles and side-by-side selfies; the next it’s polite nods and stage spacing that quietly says “development first, politics later… or at least until the cameras leave.”
LoP Rahul Gandhi gets the casual arm-around, coffee-shop vibe.
PM Narendra Modi gets the protocol-perfect distance and temple-visit composure — classic “I’m friendly with everyone, but some friendships come with better photo ops.”

John Brittas On Delhi Protests: ‘Rename Jantar Mantar As Narendra Modi Square !
CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas sharply questions the Delhi Police’s denotification of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site, calling it a clear violation of the Supreme Court’s 2018 ruling that set aside a blanket ban and affirmed the fundamental right to peaceful assembly under Articles 19(1)(a) and (b).
In this episode of #InConversation
he criticises the heavy barricading, arbitrary detentions and the shifting of protests to distant grounds (Ramlila, Burari and CBD) as an attempt to push dissent away from the power centres of Lutyens’ Delhi, especially amid ongoing CJP and INDIA bloc agitations over electoral-roll revisions and the Election Commission.
“Delhi is a city of Barricades,” @JohnBrittas told @IndianExpress
Brittas also argues that such measures, coming soon after mass detentions of protesters and leaders, erode democratic space and constitutional institutions, insisting that fair elections and the right to protest must be restored rather than administratively extinguished.

Several pointed questions have emerged over the Delhi Police’s handling of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Critics and opposition voices have asked why entry and exit were restricted at around 57 metro stations, trains were cancelled, and large-scale preventive detentions were carried out when the Supreme Court had directed that public transport should not be completely halted.
Questions have also been raised about whether the force followed its own Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and graded response protocols, especially given allegations of excessive force, denial of lawyer access to detained leaders, and the impact on ordinary citizens’ movement and the right to peaceful protest.
Former Joint Commissioner OP Mishra @opmips in this episode of #InConversation addressed some of these concerns by pointing to sensitive intelligence inputs, the high-security nature of central Delhi, and the need to balance law and order with the constitutional right to dissent.

Right to Protest vs Law & Order: Is the BJP Worried as INDIA Bloc Takes on the Government
So what exactly is worrying BJP more ….. youth joining the protest ?
- Or Rahul Gandhi’s street strategy?
- Or Supreme Court’s role…..as the Apex Court examines …where the line should be drawn between legitimate protest and excessive force?
In this episode of #ExpressNewsroom, I along with my colleagues @MathewLiz @manojcg4u @apurva_hv and @Joshi_Uncle examine the deepening clash between the constitutional right to peaceful protest and the state’s duty to maintain law and order, as Delhi faces near-lockdown restrictions, barricades and detentions amid INDIA Bloc and youth-led (including CJP) protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls and
allegations of electoral irregularities.
The discussion also evaluates
the broader implications for democratic space - when protest and order collide.
