But it’s especially hard for ECTs, I do appreciate. @OnceaHead mentored and appointed many, as well as working as a Teach First tutor for a number of years, so he really does get it. I’m hoping to do some work with @NATEfeed this year on supporting ECTs too.

Reading is about the relationship between reader and book but also about the relationship between reader and reader.
To broaden the reading community my pupils are part of, this morning they all wrote reading postcards for children at another school.

I'm delighted to be included in the latest issue of Teaching English magazine as the winner of the @NATEfeed Primary Award.
It's lovely to have my work recognised, and I'm even more pleased that it creates another opportunity to highlight the value of reading for pleasure.

I was pleased to run a drama workshop at the NATE conference & my colleagues from @National_Drama had some positive conversations with teachers about the contribution drama can make to English. The day was wonderful and I look forward to reading every word of this mag.

Inspired by Harold Rosen’s vision of English as ‘a different model of education’, the 2026 NATE Conference brought teachers together to explore the future of the subject through dialogue, creativity and community.

I have conference jealousy!!! I’m busy completing a book and collating an anthology of children’s writing or I would have been there. Next year.

Sorry to have missed Bob’s talk. Love that slide though!
It’s been an inspirational day at our conference. The day kicked off with Robert Eaglestone reminding us of the heritage of English as an imaginative discipline. Workshops were lively. There was a profound sense of everyone working as part of a community of practice.
Our summer conference has begun as Professor Robert Eaglestone delivers the keynote speech, The Harold Rosen Lecture.

I am running a drama workshop at this conference and National Drama have a stand there. Looking forward to it.
We're delighted that @AQAEnglish is our headline sponsor for the NATE Conference 2026. Alongside supporting next Tuesday's event, AQA will be sharing insights into finding relevance and meaning in unseen texts during their afternoon session.
One week to go until the sold-out NATE Conference. We're looking forward to welcoming English teachers from across the country for a day of inspiring talks, workshops, conversations and the NATE Awards. Thank you to everyone who'll be joining us — we can't wait to see you. #NATE

When planning becomes something to be obeyed rather than interpreted, what happens to the human moments that bring learning to life?
