Wisconsin school board rejected book about Japanese American internment. They “felt that we needed the perspective of the American government and why Japanese internment happened.” Let me present this photo of national memorial for internment camps in DC as the gov perspective

Some US Muslims, especially in positions of leadership, have openly embraced the Evangelical Right’s positions on a few social issues - such as abortion. Islamic laws around abortion aren’t “pro-choice” (per what it means in this country) but they aren’t “pro-life” either.

If you’re a reporter, don’t you dare call this a victory for religious people. Millions of us just had *our* religious freedom stolen.

If this was about babies, there would be universal healthcare. Free education. Free daycare. Southern states would be doing all they can to drop the Black maternal mortality rate. This is about power and control

Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine does not contain fetal cells, as social media posts have falsely claimed. The erroneous claim distorts the facts of how the vaccine, like many other medications, was tested. Get the facts from @AP. apne.ws/zTFss0D

If you’re comparing the Texas abortion laws to ✨Sharia Law✨ enjoy this thread from when this same talking point came up when ACB was appointed to SCOTUS. Using anything Islam & Muslim as a rhetorical measure of “bad” or “barbaric” is actually pretty bigoted.

Criticizing Amy Coney Barrett's religious fundamentalism thru the prism of Islam is a wonderful exercise in making Islam the default "fundamentalism" used as the barometer to judge Christian fundamentalism or white supremacy, as though we don't have a history of either in the US.

The US is doing extremely well with its vaccination campaign, but there are some 30 million, mostly working class people who want the vaccine but can't access it for various reasons. A huge factor? Getting time off to deal with side effects. nytimes.com/2021/05/12/us/co…

Thinking of George Floyd’s family. What they deserve is George being alive. I wish them as much peace as they can find.

Understand though that the system is still beyond broken, and ultimately we must decide what to do with police. There was legal justice today, but understand this rarely happens, and the fact that few Black folks even thought it would happen, tells you everything.

It's very rare that a cop is convicted for murdering an unarmed person in this country. Our shock and joy over Derek Chauvin's conviction is an indictment of the entire system.

While today’s verdict is a small win for police accountability and may help heal a grieving community, the systems that allowed George to be murdered — ripping him away from his family and the communities that loved him so much — remain fully intact.

The prosecutor did not “make an error.” He lied. He lied about the police killing a child. Ending this isn’t just about consequences for who pulls the trigger. It’s about admitting to and confronting an entire system that exists to protect, defend, and cover up state violence.
