Billeh's Rooftop Nut Cafe is indebted to our puppy Jenny for staffing the take-out window during Sunday brunch. It was a great chance for Nutsferatu the vampire squirrel to regale her with thrilling tales of life in Transylvania during the 1400s. Thanks, Jen! – at Portland, ME

Have now read John Alton’s PAINTING WITH LIGHT to see what a god-tier
cinematographer writing in 1949 would make of Why 2020s Movies Look That Way.
The money quote, counterintuitive to 2020s viewers because we watch most of our movies at home in lighted rooms:

Otter at a local zoo is going viral after showing zookeepers her favorite marble collection.
At a local zoo, staff noticed one otter had a habit that was different from the rest.
Otters are known for using rocks to crack open shellfish, and some even keep their favorite stones because they work better than others. But this otter wasn’t saving rocks. She was saving marbles.
Zookeepers first noticed her hiding one shiny marble in the corner of her enclosure. Then another appeared. Then another.
Soon, staff realized she wasn’t just collecting them by accident. She was carefully keeping each one like it meant something.
The zookeepers thought it was so sweet that one by one, staff members started bringing her a different marble as a gift. Every time she received one, she would take it gently, inspect it, and add it to her little collection.
Now, whenever certain keepers visit, she gathers the marbles together as if she’s showing them off. Visitors say it looks like she knows exactly which marble came from which person.

Son: Dad, is that soul, pop, or rock?
Dad: Son, that's the beauty of it. Back then, nobody cared what you called it. When a voice sounded like THAT, you just turned it up.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps:
-It’s ‘sleight of hand’
-It’s ‘bated breath’
-It’s ‘lo and behold’
-It's 'buck naked'
-It’s ‘brass tacks’
-It’s ‘free rein’
-It’s ‘toe the line'

One of my favorite stories I heard from people that knew actor Tom Skerritt was when he went to have a meeting with producer Don Simpson about the role of Commander "Viper" Metcalf in TOP GUN, where Simpson admitted he felt Skerritt might not be right for the role because he'd only seen him in performances where he was soft spoken and calm, and wasn't sure he could pull off the commanding role.
Skerritt left, and immediately went to a costume shop in Hollywood, purchased a Navy uniform, and drove right back to Don Simpson's office. Skerritt stormed past his secretary, opened Simpson's door despite the producer already being in another meeting, grabbed him by the collar and slammed him up against a wall. Now inches from Simpson's face, Skerritt said, "You don't know who I am or what I can do," and left.
Five minutes later Skerritt was informed by his agent that he got the part.

We pulling male actors out of the wrong places, namely acting schools and England. Let's go back to the old days when they came from bricklayers, boxers, aikido studios.

Badly compared to what?
Post-Christian "secular" ethics are utterly incoherent.
On one hand, we appeal to nature for why traditional Christian moral norms are "unnatural" and backwards.
Then, when people act like pre-Christian pagans—giving in to "natural" animalistic desires and behavior—we go "yikes, we don't really like that."
