Imagine bragging that 1/4 of your residents cant afford food.
That’s a fail.
Today, the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit will land in the bank accounts of more than 12 million Canadians.
This year, a family of four will receive up to $1,890. That’s real relief to help with everyday costs.
What do you want to bet that even after the separatist PQ win a majority today, the Liberals, the NDP and the media will say little about it but launch more attacks at Alberta which is holding a referendum about holding another referendum to see if they want to separate?

The new tax rates proposed by @Dave_Eby are indeed a “doctor tax” and a “successful person tax” — BC is going to go from bad to worse if the NDP wins again. Sigh.
Replying to @RobShaw_BC @Dave_Eby
We need to start referring to this as the "doctor tax", like right away...because that's what it is.

Years ago Bev Oda was a cabinet minister in PM Harper's cabinet. On government business, one of the items she billed for was orange juice at $18. The Liberals raised such a fuss, treating it as a national scandal that she resigned from cabinet.
Now we have Ms. Joly saying that the government will not try to recover the $32 million lost in the Green Slush Fund scandal. She said it would not be in the best interest of taxpayers to recover it.
Liberals are hypocrites and Ms. Joly should be bounced from cabinet for making this comment.
Carney won't fire her as she is just another pawn in Carney's cabinet and pawns are the weakest pieces in chess.

1.2 million British Columbians don't have a family doctor. At a time when BC desperately needs more doctors, the NDP comes up with a plan to drive them out of the province.
There is no problem the NDP don't think can be fixed by raising your taxes.
.@Conservative_BC respond to this by calling it a "doctor tax" on the wages physicians make, which will drive doctors out of the province at a time of trying to recruit them.

The BC New Democrats seem to be the last gasp of Trudeauism. Anti-growth redistribution, excessive identity politics and preening progressivism. Even as the federal Liberals distance themselves from the “lost decade”, David Eby is determined to double down on its failures.
NEW - @Dave_Eby proposes to raise income taxes on top two brackets by 2 percentage points, to generate $1b in extra revenue for BC.
• $190,405-$265,545 will go from 16.8% to 18.8%
• $265,545-$1m will go from 20.5% to 22.5%
• New $1m+ tax at 24.5%

Only a week ago it was billionaires, today its millionaires.
Next week it will be “the rich” defined as anyone making g over media income of $67k a year
Get this guy out ffs
NEW - @Dave_Eby says he will create a new tax bracket on people who earn more than $1m annually, to tax the wealthiest British Columbians to help pay for health care costs.
Murray D retweeted
They called it a millionaire tax.
It starts at $190,405.
That's not a millionaire.
That's a surgeon. An engineer. The founder hiring your kids.
Every province wants these people.
Alberta wants them. Texas wants them. Ontario wants them.
BC's offer: come here, succeed, and we'll take more.
Victoria could be the best place in Canada to build a career.
Ocean, talent, a university, a tech sector.
Instead we're sending the bill to the people we should be recruiting.
Reward success. Don't punish it.
Framing this as a “millionaire tax” is deliberately misleading.
The tax increases start at $190K…
These are high skilled professionals, doctors, entrepreneurs and executives. The exact people BC should be fighting to attract and retain.
Instead Eby’s message is “succeed here and we’ll take more from you.”
Murray D retweeted
This will have such a negative impact on being able to recruit entrepreneurs and top talent to BC. You can’t recruit sub specialist physicians with a 57.5% income tax rate without then turning around and paying them more tax dollars. This is such a nutso plan.

David Eby actually believing that he can tax BC out of debt is certifiable lunacy. Sound fiscal policies, abandoning woke ideology projects & allowing private enterprise to revitalize BC’s economy is the only rational way to repair the damage EBY’s NDP have already done.
Eby says B.C. would become first major province to introduce such a tax bracket. #bcpoli

57.5% at $190,000 is not a millionaires tax. It is a tax on dentists, engineers and two-income families with a mortgage.
Here is what happens next, and it is the same everywhere. The people it was aimed at leave. The people it actually hits cannot. Doctors go to Alberta, founders go to the US, and the family on $190,000 stays and pays.
Canada already loses a significant number of high earners every year.
Every government that does this is surprised by the same outcome. It has never once gone differently.
UPDATE: We now have the rate details.
And this is much broader than the “millionaires’ tax” initially advertised.
The proposed B.C. provincial rates would increase:
• 16.8% → 18.8% on taxable income from $190,405 to $265,545
• 20.5% → 22.5% from $265,545 to $1 million
• A new 24.5% rate above $1 million
That means the combined federal/B.C. top marginal rate would become an astonishing 57.5%.
And notice where the tax increases actually begin: roughly $190,000, not $1 million.
So much for simply asking “millionaires” to pitch in a little more.
I’ll have much more to say about this.

Hopefully all the Elbows Up crowd that were cheering Carney will now understand why there were no private companies in the original announcement. They aren't going to waste their money on a project that will be tied up for 10 years. New government, same pile of crap.

Politicians like David Eby are one reason we are losing entrepreneurs in Canada’s food sector—the people who create jobs and wealth.
As soon as they achieve success, some politicians are quick to accuse them of profiteering, dismissing the blood, sweat and tears it took to get there.
Pathetic.

Eby’s words are backfiring spectacularly. Not because he’s a left wing politician attacking a billionaire, that’s standard. It’s because he’s a cynical jerk attacking a decent and generous British Columbian.
He has helped build the West. Maybe more than anyone else in terms of building businesses, employing people of every race / age / ethnicity / religion / gender AND providing by choice incredible community donations.
And many $billions of salary and thus taxes.
Yes @Dave_Eby and his boss @AviLewis need to apologize for any abusive narrative to a gentleman who will go down in history as one of the greatest Canadians of all time.
Well put @PremierScottMoe

Taxing the rich, demonizing job creators, instituting government price controls. Dave Eby is reaching for the mid-20th century socialist handbook which inevitably raises prices, creates shortages and incentivizes innovators to pack up and leave.
