Living my best life @CockeysvilleMS volunteering in Math 7 for @MsFontinell. We solved and graphed inequalities!
So proud of the @CockeysvilleMS NJHS for organizing a used book drive! I can’t wait for students @PadoniaPride to get to enjoy the 500 books we collected this month! @etblouin @MrCarneyCMS

This 3rd grader found the BEST surprise message tucked in his book today — just in time to celebrate the @Ravens Purple Friday! @DeCostaLacie @cassie_cherigo
Lamar in a Car returns to Room 27 ☺️
Former students told their younger siblings to be on the lookout for Lamar in a Car once the @Ravens started their playoff drive. Kids were so excited to see him when they came to math this week!
Getting to hear student thinking as they complete an @IllustrateMath Info Gap was the best way to spend a Monday! @BCPSMATH @MrCarneyCMS @CockeysvilleMS
Highlight of the Week = seeing a Spanish teacher leave “power ups” on the wall so her students could be successful while she was out @MsDentonCMS @MrCarneyCMS
Loved getting to spend Valentine’s Day with @CockeysvilleMS NJHS ☺️ Students were working on making blankets for hospitals in our community
Socratic Soccer = perfect advisory activity for the start of 3rd quarter! @MrsThomasBcps @MrCarneyCMS

Please retweet to help this @HernwoodES student with her independent research in the library? She is learning how social media contributes to viral posts. @spoland123
So proud of how hard the @CockeysvilleMS NJHS worked on their tree! @MrCarneyCMS
7th grade used vertical whiteboards to prepare for an assessment and prove that nothing is scarier than @KFlemmens zombie run time. I still had fun trying to beat her this week ☺️@CockeysvilleMS
“Ms. Fontinell, can you take a picture of my diagram? It’s too good to erase it.” I love how much vertical whiteboards have really built up the confidence of mathematicians in room 27!

More @CockeysvilleMS World Cafe, our @AVID4College strategy of the month, this time in Math - the new IM curricula lends itself to this kind of positive collaboration @jbenjaminBCPS @MsFowler5 @MrsThomasBcps
Algebra 1 students built connections between forms of quadratics and their characteristics using hexagonal thinking. LOVED getting to see their thinking unfold as groups discussed the best place for each hexagon. @CockeysvilleMS
Algebra 1 students discussed factored form of quadratics, thought about where they may have seen parabolas in the real world, and used @Desmos sliders to model with mathematics. Then, we talked about whether a quadratic equation was the best model.
Pre-Algebra students at home and in Room 32 collaborated on Padlet to practice applying the triangle inequality theorem — I loved getting to see everyone in separate spaces work together! @CockeysvilleMS
Algebra 1 students were able to make sense of problems in order to decide which strategy was the best way to solve an equation. We finished class by talking about the benefits of each of the 4 methods!
Our period 9 class...
- was excited when they could use Algebra Tiles
- celebrated each other’s success on a quiz
- admitted that some of us are looking forward to extra time together when our schedule changes
It was a pretty great day!
@CockeysvilleMS
I loved using a Padlet to see students define a polynomial expression, then revise their definitions based on different examples and non-examples of them. @MrsPotterMath - your Algebra 1 video inspired this activity ☺️
Students in Pre-Algebra persevered in problem solving while they found rate of change and slope. This feedback showed our hard work paid off! @CockeysvilleMS
