“The National Reading Panel did not find research supporting the use of instructional time for silent independent reading…independent silent reading may not be the most efficient use of instructional time.” @literacypodcast Literacy 50, p. 150 @Scholastic
Silent Reading was a HOT topic of debate in last week’s Literacy class with some strong proponents in favour of DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) and others suggesting we use the time for targeted, small group reading instruction with our struggling readers instead.
Is Silent Reading here to stay or is it time to go? What are your thoughts on Silent Reading- yes or no??🤔
