When we moved into our house in 2018, Sarah found a little climbing rose tucked behind the holly by the garage. It had maybe four or five blooms on it.
She trained it up the shutter. The next year there were a few more. Two summers ago she put up a trellis and started guiding it across the side of the garage.
Now half the garage is covered in roses.
I love watching the joy it brings her to tend to it pruning, tying, training, giving it somewhere to climb.
A little forgotten rose became a thousand roses once someone helped it reach the light.

My daughter’s imagination magically created a real raccoon pen pal. He lives in the forest and they exchange letters by leaving them on her bed (the postal service created too many questions). Raccoon has an apple orchard and he sent her a recipe for apple pie.
Raccoon’s handwriting needs work.
