@CalMac_Updates for tomorrow, 10th April, I was booked on the 13:00 Kennacraig>Port Askaig ferry. Then you told me I was moved to the 12:45 Kennacraig>Port Ellen ferry. Now the app says there is just one vessel and it's timetabled for 13:00 Kennacraig>Port Askaig.

It's six degrees of slasher separation for the final frightening film fact, and we return to Halloween (1978). Before he was "Freddy Kreuger", actor Robert Englund was paid to throw leaves around on set to make California look like fall in the mid-west. youtu.be/3JsrH8eUVOo?si=5U24…

The largest number of on-set deaths occurred in 1989 during the filming of the Indian TV movie The Sword of Tipu Sultan. 62 people died when the studio caught fire. Sanjay Khan, the film's director & star, had 72 surgeries and spent 13 months in hospital. youtu.be/R74NDjRL5yc?si=pbdD…

Cameraman John Jordan had a foot amputated after a helicopter blade hit him while filming this James Bond scene. 2 years later, he fell two thousand feet to his death from a B-25 bomber while filming scenes for Catch-22 (1970). youtu.be/cvbbQaIoaSM?si=M4Zl…

Highest-grossing horror? It (2017) made $702.7m. Most expensive? World War Z (2013) cost $190m. Most tickets? The Exorcist (1973) has sold 214.9m tickets. Most popular character? Dracula has appeared in 23 major films. This is the highest-grossing one: youtu.be/Ku52zNnft8k?si=eCOO…

For Norwegian speakers, the opening of John Carpenter's The Thing (1980) has a big spoiler. The Norwegian pilot says, "Get the hell away from that thing. That's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! GET AWAY YOU IDIOTS!" youtu.be/6fW_otRmxuk?si=Svqy…

David Cronenberg pioneered the "body horror" genre with films like Videodrome (1983) and The Fly (1986). In a parallel world, he could have directed Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983), Top Gun (1986) and Robocop (1987). He refused them all. youtu.be/UFHey3utk0I?si=z6LC…

Sir Christopher Lee also witnessed France's final public guillotining, met the men who assassinated Rasputin, spoke five languages, and played Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Lucifer and Death. He is an absolute horror legend and a fascinating human. youtu.be/7KC1wSnyfqg?si=Xu5F…

Sentences I didn't expect to encounter while researching the upcoming "Paddington in Peru" movie: ..."The story was influenced by the Werner Herzog films Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo, due to such films showcasing Peru's incredible variety of landscapes"...

This one needs 2 posts. Sir Christopher Lee (1922-2015) was a James Bond, Star Wars, and LOTR villain. An opera & metal performer. And he taught Peter Jackson the accurate noises that a stabbed man would make because... He hunted Nazis in WW2... youtu.be/5TQARRckm6U?si=YinQ…

Halloween (1978) director John Carpenter, Nick Castle (the original Michael Myers) and Tommy Lee Wallace (director of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch) are "The Coupe De Villes"; the band who perform the title track for Big Trouble in Little China (1986). youtu.be/KYoQtHOH5cs?si=Zb2K…

He's been mentioned already, but zombie-master George A. Romero makes a cameo at 6:27 in this clip of The Silence of the Lambs (1991) - He's the guy with the walkie-talkie. (Bonus fact: Anthony Hopkins won an Oscar for just 16 minutes of screen time). youtu.be/2LrFsXAvzqc?si=IarS…

In the Philippines, between 2002-2012, more than 6 people were killed after singing My Way at karaoke. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Way… Some say the song is cursed and refuse to sing it in public. youtu.be/qQzdAsjWGPg?si=YLkm…

The sound of a fatal fairground accident? A cleaning lady stabbed? The LP cover model suffering hot honey burns? Rumours about the scream at 2:32 in Love Rollercoaster by the Ohio Players have persisted. But, no. It's keyboardist Billy Beck wailing. youtu.be/Gm8lcoPZtBY?si=3CUF…

Shaun of the Dead (2004) is obviously influenced by the work of director George A. Romero. He enjoyed Simon Pegg and (director) Edgar Wright's movie and even featured them as zombie cameos in his own film Land of the Dead (2005). youtu.be/usvthsB0A64?si=kKi8…

Filled with cauldrons, animated skeletons, ghosts, transforming bats, and, ultimately, an incarnation of the Devil, George Mellies' 3-minute Le Manoir du Diable (1896) is regarded as the first horror film. youtu.be/OPmKaz3Quzo?si=2Rfc…

“You need an underpaid person AND a robot to do the job of a person, but worse” really sums up the whole AI thing quite nicely
It seems some people are still confused about how autonomous the Optimus bots were at the Tesla event. This clip is from another video Tesla released a while ago. It shows how the bots are controlled remotely using a haptic suit, kind of like puppets. Also, during the event, the operators were speaking through a microphone. None of the bots were talking on their own. In short, all the hand movements and speaking were done remotely, but the walking was autonomous.
