The windmill set, designed by legendary set designer William Cameron Menzies, provides some great shots for hiding, and the whole thing is beautifully shot by cinematographer Rudolph Maté. Foreign Correspondent (1940) #Hitchcock

🚘 In 1975, Ricardo Montalbán became the face of the Chrysler Cordoba and delivered one of advertising’s most memorable lines: ‘fine Corinthian leather.’ The phrase turned into a lasting pop-culture punchline that was referenced and parodied for decades. Of course, the leather itself had nothing to do with ancient Corinth, it was pure marketing that helped make the Cordoba a hit

My wife and I have shown TDTESS to many young people and always challenge them to remember the words. We then stop the film right before Patricia Neal utters the famous phrase and ask the kids to say it. Their responses are always hilarious!

Close Encounters and E.T. have not dated well for some reason. Both were huge blockbusters when released and beloved by audiences. But they haven't maintained their popularity in the same way as Raiders of the Lost Ark or Jaws.
Expected better from Close Encounters, but we’re seeing further proof of three things. 1) Good sci-fi is timeless. 2) Sci-fi fans appreciate the creativity and ingenuity of producers and writers in relation to the time in which they are working. 3) Writing beats SFX every time.

He was born into Hollywood royalty, became TV's most famous sidekick — and walked away from it all before anyone was ready to let him go. James MacArthur's story began long before ‘Hawaii Five-O’. He was adopted by celebrated playwright Charles MacArthur and Academy Award winner Helen Hayes. His godmother was silent film legend Lillian Gish. Growing up, dinner guests included John Steinbeck, John Barrymore, Harpo Marx, and Ben Hecht. Then everything changed. In 1949, his sister Mary died of polio at just nineteen. James was only eleven. Helen Hayes turned heartbreak into purpose, creating the Mary MacArthur Fund to help children with polio. James went to work early. He made his radio debut beside his mother in 1948. As a teenager, he painted sets, worked the lights, directed backstage, ran the parking lot, and acted whenever he could. A famous name opened few doors. He earned his place the old-fashioned way. Then Disney called. ‘Third Man on the Mountain’ ‘Swiss Family Robinson.’ More films followed. So did westerns and war dramas. Then came 1968. Producer Leonard Freeman needed a new Detective Danny "Danno" Williams after the original choice failed with audiences. James got the call. Opposite Jack Lord, he became the perfect partner. Lord commanded the room. MacArthur never needed to. Their chemistry did the talking. Then came two words. "Book 'em, Danno." Nobody expected the line to become television history. It did. For eleven seasons and more than 260 episodes, MacArthur became one of TV's most familiar faces. The success made him wealthy, and he invested heavily in Hawaiian real estate. In 1975, Helen Hayes even appeared on the show as Danny's aunt. By the late 1970s, he felt the series had become predictable. So he walked away. In 1979, he reportedly phoned the producer from South America to say he was leaving while heading toward the Amazon River. The show survived one more season. Then it was over. MacArthur returned to the stage, made guest appearances on television, and briefly returned as Danny Williams in an unaired 1997 reboot pilot. He never chased another hit. He stayed close to Hawaii, lived with quiet dignity, and in 2003 was honored by the Hawaii International Film Festival. In 2010, while discussing a cameo for the new ‘Hawaii Five-0’, James MacArthur died at seventy-two. He never made that final appearance. CBS paid tribute. Fans didn't need reminding. There was only one Danno 🌊🌴
