Ashley Williams.
She may belong to the streets.
She may have a boring kit.
She may have a case of foot-in-mouth syndrome...
But are we finally ready to admit she's also grossly misunderstood?
And honestly, she's the perfect example of why Mass Effect is so damn good.
She's flawed. She's opinionated. She regularly hangs herself out to dry. She REALLY likes poetry. And some of her neutral dialogue responses are genuinely unhinged.
She gives you plenty of reasons to disagree with her but the game doesn't desperately try to make you like her.
That's what makes her interesting. Which is saying a lot for a human in a Sci-FI game.
Love her or hate her, there isn't another character quite like Ashley Williams.
And I'm not sure I can say that about a lot of RPG characters these days.
The obsession with need to “see yourself” in every single piece of media has been a hindrance to creative freedom for years.
Artists and creators get harassed for not doing a checklist, and when they do include minority groups-the same ones complaining say it isn’t good enough.

I don’t see why they bother, you’re not going to change anyone’s mind and both sides are too entrenched in their respective camps to ever agree on anything.
The name calling and racism/xenophobia is tiresome though.
People in the west view piracy as tantamount to a human right and couldn’t care less about copyright or IP.
Japan views piracy in a negative right and thinks a creator should have full control over how their works are used and distributed.
