Now the The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board is taking Senator Roger Marshall, to task. Today’s print edition headline: “Roger Marshall Backs a Giant Tax Increase.” The editorial criticizes Marshall’s proposal to eliminate the Social Security payroll tax cap, currently $184,500 in annual earnings. Here’s what the board wrote: “Sen. Roger Marshall of Kansas is the latest to call for a giant tax increase even without any policy reform.” “Mr. Marshall—the Republican, remember—came out in favor of what would be one of the largest peacetime tax increases in recent decades.” “That would amount to a 12.4% marginal tax rate increase on workers above that amount—6.2% each on workers and their employers. It’d be a punitive tax on work.” “Never mind that under the most optimistic assumptions, eliminating the cap wouldn’t come close to filling the entitlement’s funding gap. And that’s before accounting for the damage to the economy from pushing effective marginal income-tax rates on millions of earners above 60% in some states.” “Mr. Marshall is trying to out-Democrat his Democratic opponent, Adam Hamilton.” “Mr. Hamilton said at the same debate he’d support raising but not eliminating the payroll tax cap, which means he supports a smaller tax increase than the Republican in the race.” “This is a political mistake for the ages because this debate is bigger than Social Security. In its impact on the federal budget and consequences for economic growth, Social Security reform may be the most important policy this year’s class of Senators will debate during their term. Why vote for Republicans if all you’ll get is left-wing, tax-and-spend economic policies masquerading as right-wing populism?” 🔥 Read it here: 🔗 wsj.com/opinion/roger-marsha…

Watching Roger Marshall get called out on Fox News about his campaign 👀 🔥 Roger, you helped create this mess. You backed the tariffs and Iran war squeezing Kansas farmers, businesses and families. Nearly 600 days without an open public town hall. Telling Americans to make sacrifices. Fourteen votes against efforts to end the Iran war. That’s your record. You defended easing sanctions on Russia and voted against aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, End Citizens United has requested a Senate Ethics investigation into alleged misuse of taxpayer resources. The American Prospect reports that your legislation could benefit businesses connected to your longtime donor and your wife’s investments. Kansans deserve answers. In July, you said “the midterms will be decided by the price of gasoline in October.” Well, Roger, it’s October. Kansans are paying those prices. And they’re voting. You chose Trump and Florida over Kansas. You did this to yourself. #KsSen #VoteForChange #KS #KsLeg

The AP’s numbers speak volumes. Since the August primary: Adam Hamilton: More than 10,000 contributions from Kansas residents. Roger Marshall: About 200. That’s roughly 50 to 1 in Kansas contributions. And Leroy Towns, former chief of staff to Republican Senator Pat Roberts, is backing Hamilton, too. Kansans across party lines are stepping up for Adam Hamilton. Now let’s turn that support into votes. #ksleg #kssen #Kansas #grassroots #Vote

Gas prices. Inflation. Corruption. Those are voters’ top three concerns in Fox News polling. Roger Marshall keeps selling fear, urging you to question your safety while sidestepping questions about his own record. He backed tariffs that raised costs and an Iran war that drove fuel prices higher. Kansans are paying for those choices. Meanwhile, a watchdog has requested an ethics investigation into his alleged misuse of taxpayer resources for political activity. Making you afraid doesn’t erase his responsibility. Kansans deserve lower costs, honest government, and answers from the senator who helped make these problems worse. #KsLeg #KsSen #Corruption #Gas #inflation #VoteForChange #Kansas

Former KS House Republican Majority leader endorses Adam Hamilton over Roger Marshall “By this point in the election cycle, we are all fed up with the constant barrage of election messaging. We are ready for it to stop. We long to see ambulance-chasing lawyer ads on TV, cute animal videos on social media, and we are even looking forward to the day our mailbox contains nothing more than bills. The messaging barrage is relentless, but accomplishes very little. If we desire clarity before we enter the voting booth, we need to shut out all that noise and examine the evidence before our eyes. In the Kansas campaign for U.S. Senator, we can judge incumbent Senator Roger Marshall on his record — by his actions and by his inaction. By that metric, he has failed Kansas time and again. Roger Marshall failed to speak out while the Trump administration’s actions hurt international trade alliances which Kansas farmers, consumers, and businesses depend upon. He has defended ill-conceived tariffs that continue to devastate Kansas’s economy. He regularly shows up on cable preaching about the threat of immigration but then quietly pleads for amnesty when ICE raids target our workforce in southwest Kansas. He speaks out of both sides of his mouth on issues critical to Kansas agriculture. Roger Marshall has enthusiastically supported tax policy which further enriches the wealthiest, while average Kansans fall further behind. And he has remained in support of an ill-conceived Iran war, which has created significant negative effects on the U.S. economy — easily seen in $4 a gallon gas and $6 a gallon diesel. And finally, Marshall has turned a blind eye to rampant corruption within the administration and has supported them in their refusal to bring justice to the thousands of victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. Roger Marshall’s actions and inactions demonstrate his choice to ignore the needs and wishes of his constituents. He has chosen instead to do the bidding of his fat-cat donors and to consistently, unthinkingly, and obediently follow the wishes of the president. If we allow him to continue to ignore his constituents, we are telling him that it is OK. We are telling him that he can ignore us without consequence. This is how representative government dies. When we consider the alternative, Pastor Adam Hamilton, we can look to his well-respected background as a church founder and pastor. That is a wonderful and inspiring story, and I have seen it firsthand by attending his church on a few occasions. But we can also examine his words during the campaign even as we acknowledge that he must prove those words in office. Adam promises to lead and govern from the center, with compassion and understanding; or, as he has claimed on the campaign trail, he will use his brain, his heart, and his courage on behalf of all Kansans. He has pledged to avoid extremes and to be present and accessible to Kansans. These are just words at this point, but I certainly like what I hear, and I believe it is time to give the new guy a chance. As a 12-year veteran of the Kansas Legislature, I certainly understand how the system works. But I also earnestly believe that there will be times when a legislator must take an unpopular stand when it is of great importance to his or her constituents. Failure to do so inevitably leads constituents to ask why their representative is even in office, and for whom he serves. Increasingly, Roger Marshall’s constituents are asking exactly those questions. It is time for Roger to go. It is time to put our trust in @Hamilton4Kansas. I respectfully ask you to join me in doing so. — Don Hineman, of Dighton, is a rancher and former member and Republican majority leader in the Kansas House of Representatives. Americans see government corruption at historic levels. Roger Marshall owes Kansans answers. Gallup finds 89% of Americans believe government corruption is widespread, a record in its 20-year trend, including 83% of Republicans. Fox News finds 88% of registered voters are extremely or very concerned about government corruption. The American Prospect reports that Marshall-backed legislation could benefit companies connected to longtime donor and business partner Dan Tasset, including agricultural companies in which Marshall’s wife holds investments. Those overlapping public duties and private interests deserve scrutiny. End Citizens United has requested a Senate ethics investigation into alleged misuse of taxpayer-paid staff and travel for campaign purposes. Its complaint cites nearly $23,000 in New York travel that coincided with $119,900 in contributions. It also questions approximately $4,000 in travel connected to his Sugar Bowl visit, with Sarasota stops where he had a vacation home. Marshall’s campaign says he complies with applicable laws and rules. Kansans deserve an independent investigation and a public accounting. Public office is a public trust. An October Fox News poll finds 88% of registered voters are extremely or very concerned about corruption, including 60% who are extremely concerned. Corruption ranked above inflation among the issues tested. Kansans deserve answers about Roger Marshall’s taxpayer-funded travel. End Citizens United’s ethics complaint cites $3,950.20 in combined travel reimbursements for Marshall and aide John Martin, covering itineraries that included New Orleans during the Sugar Bowl trip. Marshall’s itinerary went through Sarasota, Florida, both before and after New Orleans. The group questions the official purpose of the New Orleans stop and has requested a Senate ethics investigation. Taxpayers deserve an explanation and accountability. Kansans for Marshall Finance Team member and Roger’s longtime business partner is the subject of the in-depth business investigations @TheProspect released today also has an arrest history. Outpatient Surgery reported Dan Tasset’s 2007 lewd-conduct charge. It quoted a Johnson County DA spokesman describing witnesses seeing an SUV occupant “masturbating.” Tasset pleaded not guilty and said he was changing clothes. Final disposition unverified.
