Experience in the Maldives has shown us clearly that dragging friendly countries and our old development partners into our domestic political matters is not in the national interest. Our relations with them must be kept above partisan politics.
As opposition, our fight should be with the government.
What we oppose are the current government's non-transparent policies, its underhand and shady dealings, and policies which harm national interest. We oppose the corruption in the government, frequent U-turns in policies and broken promises made to the people.
We will continue to hold the government accountable on these issues, in the interest of the nation, without compromising our long-standing friendships with other countries.
