Another New Hampshire town is considering restrictions on kratom, and there's something in this proposal that natural-leaf consumers and small businesses need to understand!
On October 8, the Merrimack Town Council voted 6–0 to advance proposed Chapter 195.
**NOW THERE'S AN OFFICIAL PUBLIC HEARING!**

⚠️ **STATUS: PROPOSED — NOT ENACTED!**
Here's where things get interesting. 👀
The proposal would allow unadulterated whole and ground kratom leaf for adults 21 and older.
**BUT WHAT ABOUT NATURAL KRATOM CAPSULES?**
The proposed language also restricts capsules, tablets, drinks, extracts, enhanced products, and synthetic derivatives.
That means ordinary botanical kratom capsules could potentially be restricted, even when they contain the EXACT SAME natural leaf that's permitted in powder form!
**MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE!** 🙄
I've been a natural kratom consumer for over a decade, and my family operated our small business in Newport, New Hampshire, for years.
I support responsible regulation, proper testing, accurate labeling, age restrictions, and consumer education.
**But I do NOT support banning products.**
If public safety is the goal, let's have conversations about reasonable standards, transparency, and accountability instead of taking products away from responsible adults.
And let's remember that many people choose capsules simply because they're convenient and easier to consume.
💚 **NEW HAMPSHIRE, PLEASE SHOW UP!**
Attend the hearing, ask questions, share your experiences, and make sure the Town Council understands how these restrictions could affect consumers and small businesses.
Even if you can't attend, contact your local officials and make your concerns known.

While everyone is focused on federal scheduling, local governments are making decisions that could eliminate access to kratom one community at a time.

Not every proposal has passed. Residents still have opportunities to participate and make their voices heard.

🚨 DEA KRATOM UPDATE EVERYONE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGED! 👀
On October 14, 2026, the DEA officially published two updated federal scheduling notices in the Federal Register.
And before anyone starts screaming that ALL kratom is being federally banned, THAT IS NOT WHAT THESE NOTICES SAY.
Here's what's happening. 👇
🔴 STATUS: PROPOSED — NOT YET EFFECTIVE
The DEA is proposing Schedule I controls for products containing 7-OH and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MGPI) above certain thresholds:
➡️ More than 1 mg per gram in solid products.
➡️ More than 1 mg per milliliter in liquids.
➡️ Or a mitragynine-to-7-OH/MGPI ratio below 100:1.
NOW HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART FOR KRATOM CONSUMERS!
That does NOT mean every product labeled "natural" is automatically exempt. The actual alkaloid levels matter.
📅 November 13, 2026, is the earliest possible date for a new scheduling order. It is NOT a confirmed effective date.
MGPI, MGM-15, and MGM-16 remain subject to existing federal scheduling controls.
I've spent over a decade in this industry, and I'm going to keep saying this:
WE NEED ACCURATE INFORMATION, NOT FEAR-BASED HEADLINES!
Consumers deserve transparency, proper testing, accurate labeling, and facts about what these federal actions actually mean.

Wait a minute... researchers actually studied long-term kratom consumers and looked at their BLOODWORK?! 👀
And the findings deserve some attention!
A 2026 study published in Scientific Reports examined 581 adults in Southern Thailand, including:
🌿 285 traditional kratom consumers
🌿 296 non-consumers
Researchers compared blood counts, liver function, kidney markers, and other health measurements.
HERE'S WHAT THEY FOUND:
✅ No clinically significant differences in liver function markers between the groups after accounting for other factors.
✅ No clinically significant differences in blood counts.
✅ Researchers found differences in kidney function markers, which they suggested were likely related to differences in body composition.
But here's what I find interesting. We constantly hear claims about how dangerous kratom is, but how often do we hear about research examining people who have consumed traditional kratom for YEARS?
I've personally consumed natural kratom for over a decade. And THIS is why I believe science matters so much.
Not fear. Not assumptions. Not sensational headlines.
Actual research involving actual people.

First, my heart breaks for this mother. No parent should ever have to experience losing a child. 💔
But can we PLEASE report the entire story instead of lumping everything together under the word “kratom”?
According to the actual news report alcohol was also involved, and he reportedly received a pink pill from a friend. 🤷🏼♀️
Those details matter!
I'm all for educating people about risks, protecting young people, and holding irresponsible manufacturers accountable. But accurate reporting matters too.
We can acknowledge this family's heartbreaking loss without misleading the public about what substances were involved.
Tell the WHOLE story. Not just the part that makes a scary headline.

On October 8, 2026, the Merrimack Town Council held a first reading of a proposed kratom ordinance introduced by Councilor Nancy Murphy and the Prevention, Enforcement & Treatment (PET) group.
⚠️ CURRENT STATUS: PROPOSED — NOT AN ENACTED BAN.
The final ordinance language and outcome have not yet been confirmed.
📅 **Next scheduled Town Council meeting: October 22, 2026, at 7 PM.** A kratom vote has not been confirmed for that meeting.

Let's talk about actual KRATOM SCIENCE for a change! 🔬 While politicians and headlines continue debating kratom, scientists are conducting real human studies. And this one deserves attention!
A peer reviewed study published in Drug Testing and Analysis in 2026 examined the effects of natural dried kratom leaf powder in 116 healthy adults. Researchers used a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled design, including 15 consecutive days of administration.
Here's what they found:
🔬 No serious adverse events or deaths were reported.
🔬 No participants met the study's threshold for clinically meaningful opioid withdrawal.
🔬 Reported adverse effects were generally mild, although they occurred more often at higher doses.
🔬 Researchers concluded that kratom was generally well tolerated at the doses studied.
But here's my question. Why aren't studies like THIS receiving the same attention as sensational headlines? Science matters. Context matters.

Here's something we need to talk about more. Who financially benefits when natural kratom gets banned?
Think about it.
Millions of Americans use kratom, including adults who say it helps them manage pain and maintain their quality of life.
Now imagine taking that option away.
Some people may end up seeking prescription medications, including Suboxone, which contains buprenorphine, an opioid that can cause physical dependence. And who makes money from those prescriptions?
Pharmaceutical companies.
When access to a plant is criminalized, the potential financial beneficiaries of prescription alternatives deserve scrutiny. I'm not claiming pharmaceutical companies are orchestrating kratom bans. I'm asking why the financial incentives aren't part of the conversation. Because when we're discussing public health, we should be looking at more than the risks of a plant. We should also be asking who profits when people lose access to it.
