From a prospect on a recent sales call with me: "We want to get real #PR results, sure. Earned media coverage, to put at the top of AI search. But we won't have time to talk to you or reporters. We just want you to take care of everything. So what can @MindMeldPR do for us?" Nothing. In that kind of situation, absolutely nothing. (Sorry, but it's true.) Hiring a PR agency makes sense if you plan to actually collaborate with your PR pro. The best of us, yes, even at @MindMeldPR don't *literally* have telepathy. The incredible strategic pivot you did to turn you from an also-ran into a market leader? The insane technological leap you've made with your new SaaS product? The advice you now give to your customers and partners, that everyone should know but almost no one knows? We want to hear all about that. But you don't feel like you have time to hop on a 5-minute call to share that kind of stuff with your PR pro or with the reporter they're targeting? Okay then. Do not hire a PR agency, in that case. When reporters are interested, they're going to ask questions, some of which will require input from your subject matter experts. We'll help you get those interview opportunities and show you how to get the biggest bang for your buck from any conversation with a reporter. Work with us and we can get great results. mindmeldpr.com/post/how-to-g…

💡 #AI is not a great writing tool for #marketing and #PR. But it can be an AMAZING research tool. Your friendly reminder for the day. 😎 Happy Friday, people.

How does #AI search (GEO) decide if your company is relevant? It checks news (earned media). So, how do you get reporters to write about you? Learn from @MindMeldPR 's top #PR pro (yup, it's me) in this webinar. eventbrite.com/e/pr-webinar-…

"The pace of change is crazy fast. And change makes people very nervous," @MindMeldPR's CEO said to Inc. magazine this week (Hey, that's me!). 😉 Thanks for including my quotes in your story, Amaya Nichole! 🤓 Managing change doesn't necessarily mean hunkering down. It means making change happen (instead of waiting for change to happen to you). #PR and #communications is part of that. Don't just do stuff. Tell your customers, partners and the world why you're doing what you're doing. Be up-front about the risks and rewards and also clear about the cost of doing nothing (which could be disastrous -- thus, all the necessary change). inc.com/amaya-nichole/ceos-n…

😀 Success! A reporter loved your #PR pitch, but they have a few questions. But the CEO is in meetings and 3 departments want to review it...🥲 How long do you have to get back to the #journalist before they move on?

As the founder of @MindMeldPR, what's my main day-to-day challenge? It's not actually getting earned media coverage for clients. (My wonderful team of smart PR pro's takes care of that!) My main job (which I love)? Getting new #PRagency clients in the door. As in any business, cash is king. More PR clients means more revenue. That lets us hire more #PR Associates and have more creative brains at the table getting ever-more media coverage for our happy clients. But sometimes I'll get an email like this one I received last week (slightly redacted): "We're happy to report that after an intense search involving several PR firms, we've chosen you! But we'd like to do a custom PR package that is [MORE SCOPE THAN WE DISCUSSED] at [WAAAAAY LESS BUDGET THAN WE DISCUSSED]. We'd love to start on Tuesday. Can you send over an agreement?" This kind of thing doesn't always end in no deal. I'm a reasonable man. A little bit of roll-up-your-sleeves, sharpen-your-pencil negotiating? You can get to a win for both sides. That said, new deals can sometimes fizzle out because of pricing. But I think maybe, just maybe... That's all in the past now... Because we're in 🇨🇦#Canada🍁! In Canada, if your pricing is too much for your buyers, the government will step in and buy it. What am I talking about? Is this real? Well, the Canadian federal government has announced it is prepared to spend billions to buy condos that no one wants to buy. The prices are too high. So the developers can't sell the units. Well, Canadians are problem solvers. Why let buyers and sellers determine the price of things when you can just 'solve' the problem with endless sacks of taxpayer's dollars? I'm excited about the future! Now that pricing isn't a factor, I'm sure I'll soon be signing more PR contracts than ever before! Canada, where's my bailout? globalnews.ca/news/11916872/…

💡 Public relations pro's are not journalists. (We talk to them. But we are not them.) This might seems obvious to you. I guarantee, it's not obvious to a lot of CEOs and even some seasoned VPs of #Marketing. How do I know? I do a lot of sales calls every month for @MindMeldPR We run through the client's business objectives, their marketing and PR objectives, see how that aligns with our process and results, etc. Typical sales call stuff. In at least 25 percent of these calls, the person in the company that says they want #PR services gives me this line: ❓ "So... just to clarify, you write articles and then the news outlets just publish that, right?" 🤔 Well, no. That's paid media. Advertorials. Basically, advertising with a disclaimer somewhere at the top or bottom saying that this is not news. Sponsored content, paid content, advertorial, etc. That's what that is. (BTW, sponsored content isn't always bad. We absolutely have helped some PR clients with writing thought leadership pieces and getting them published. No problem. But that's not typically what we do all day long.) What do we do, if we don't focus on paid media? Our PR pro's reach out to actual reporters in top mainstream news media (eg. newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, podcasts, etc.) and niche trade publications and everything in between. We don't typically send a finished article. What we send is a pitch. A really good idea, with some proof to back it up, targeted to that particular reporter, so that they will create a news story about our client. This PR effort requires an in-depth understanding of your business and industry and the stories we can tell about it. Good PR requires top-notch writing skills and creativity. It requires data-driven targeting and customization. And it requires persistence. Sometimes, a pitch doesn't get picked up until the 2nd or 3rd time you bug a reporter (and that's a critical skill in itself: being seen as helpful and not annoying as you reconnect each time). Want to find out how our #PRagency can get your company into the #news? Let's talk. mindmeldpr.com/post/we-don-t…
