🚨 NEW and horrible: BIA doubles down on Matter of Yajure Hurtado and holds that neither prior designation as an UIC or approved Special Juvenile petition alter the 235(b) mandatory detention designation and orders the bond granted by the IJ vacated and the 21 years old non-citizen -- who has an approved SIIJ and appears prima facie eligible for adjustment of status -- detained without bond. JFC!

Not only is birthright citizenship enshrined in the United States Constitution by the 14th Amendment, but it has also greatly benefited the US economy, explains Cato’s Michelangelo Landgrave. A new study estimates the economic impact of birthright citizens’ incomes to be $7.7 trillion. ow.ly/lAk350Z6p6O

The 15 Latin Americans deported from the US to Kinshasa are holed up in a hotel by the airport, where there are water cuts, rats, and lots of mosquitoes. They have no passports, don't speak French, and have no idea what comes next. My story for @NPR: npr.org/2026/04/28/nx-s1-579…

At least 17 people have died in ICE custody so far this year, part of President Trump's dramatic increase of immigration detention. "I have never seen anything like this, where I'm seeing ICE reporting out at least one death per week," says Setareh Ghandehari of @DetentionWatch.

NEW: For the first time, ProPublica has been able to quantify how many U.S. citizen children have been directly affected by Trump’s immigration crackdown: more than 11,000 kids had a parent detained — and that’s an undercount. 1/ 🧵 propublica.org/article/trump…

ICE pays bounties to local cops for arresting immigrants for civil infractions and then sending them to ICE, which helps fill the ICE arrest quotas. What an insane set of incentives

🚨 Since July 2025, federal agents have shot 16 people. No criminal charges. Limited public information. Cases quietly fading from the news. Rather than a coincidence, these events reflect a deep-set pattern. 🧵👇 counterpunch.org/2026/02/13/…

New from me: Legal immigrants are now getting tickets for not carrying their papers under a decades-old law. You can be cited if you're a permanent resident, international student, on a work visa, etc. Happening in southwest AZ but could spread inland azcir.org/news/2026/03/04/bo…

Firing over 100 immigration judges. Arresting immigrants outside of their immigration hearings. Pausing asylum decisions. And now? Cancelling citizenship ceremonies, the final step to becoming a U.S. citizen. Just remember that Trump never cared about "legal immigration."

Immigrants ‘plucked out of line’ at citizenship oath ceremony at Faneuil Hall “the cradle of liberty”. If you ever claimed you want immigrants to do it the right way, you should be outraged by this. On the other hand, If you think this was okay, you need to come to terms with your white nationalist views.

You have the right to record ICE. You have the right to film any operation happening in public as long as you do not interfere or impede it. Your camera is proof, but keep a safe distance. KEEP RECORDING.

🚨The Trump admin has paused all immigration and naturalization processes for people from one of the 19 travel ban countries; including Cuba and Venezuela. Even people who fully passed the citizenship exam are having their cases put on hold, just inches from the finish line.
Scoop: The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries banned from travel to the United States earlier this year, halting green card and U.S. citizenship processing for broad swaths of people. More coming soon.

What message are we sending when Afghan allies, Venezuelan dissidents and Rohingya genocide survivors are pushed aside while others leap the line? My new @MSNBC op-ed on the WH’s record-low refugee cap — an attempt to redefine who’s worthy of protection. msnbc.com/msnbc/amp/rcna2426…
