🧵Yesterday we celebrated the graduation of 9 men from the HWPEP at MCF!
These graduates received bachelor's degrees they have worked hard to earn. Notably, these 9 are the very first cohort to complete this program - they're pioneers as Administrator Kyle Kaminski put it.
Muskegon Correctional Facility staff, MDOC education staff, @HopeCollege and @westernsem faculty and staff, and family members and loved ones of each graduate joined to recognize their accomplishments.
This week Central Michigan Correctional Facility in St. Louis hosted the largest Road to Restoration clinic inside a facility yet. A partnership with @MichSoS , RTR is a free clinic to assist Michigan residents in taking the next steps to get their driving privileges restored.

@GovWhitmer has officially proclaimed this week Correctional Officers Appreciation Week in @migovernment ! We echo the proclamation in acknowledging and honoring the vital contributions and sacrifices officers make to protect the residents of our state.
MDOC employs nearly 4,900 corrections officers. Officers put their well-being at risk for the safety and security of Michigan communities as they work to deescalate intense situations, keep individuals from harming themselves and Michigan residents, and promote offender success.
We're immensely proud of MDOC officers and the service they provide every day. Join us this week in thanking them for their invaluable contributions to public safety. michigan.gov/whitmer/news/pr…

Director Washington was recently a guest on Wisconsin Public Radio. Why? Because the governor of Wisconsin is looking to emulate the innovative Vocational Village model Team MDOC has built here in Michigan.
WPR also interviewed Marcos Fernandez who spent more than 13 years in custody, graduated from the Vocational Village welding program, and now owns his own company where he is employing hiring graduates of the program.
