When looking at people flipping new projects, to ensure you don’t turn into a sour miserable bitch, you need to acknowledge that there are different categories of pfp nft projects - and know that they all trade very differently but they do all play a part in the ecosystem here. The silly fun stuff with zero expectation and little to no plan - that stuff will often fly (much to the dismay of bag holders of more ‘serious’ projects). There’s the stuff that remains accessible, people easily join and enjoy the community, with some expectation of dev/exciting updates. There’s the super high ticket stuff that is seen as a ‘buy and hold’ - even then, some buy to collect, some to flex, and some to flip. It doesn’t matter if you’re here for the community, the art, the flip, the culture - it all plays a part in the symbiosis we try to find within this very strange new niche, but let’s just get past the point of fighting about which aspect is more noble or legitimate. I personally am here for the art, culture, and future I see. I’d be lying if I said it weren’t thrilling to see a profit on something I’ve bought. I get it. The issue is when we tip the scales too far into focussing too much on the flip imo. It’s what happened with the removal of royalties and the introduction of platforms like blur, where you could barely even see the art you were buying. Everything that people loved about the community was deprioritised and slowly people forgot huge reasons they’d even joined. Acknowledge the ecosystem. Understand the importance of different buyers with different motives, and attempt to facilitate a healthy symbiosis of all. NFTs.
