The 'MetaScience' @ERC_Research project @BristolUni pursues the question of what, if anything, unifies the natural sciences?

Fascinated by the @Nature article “Assembly theory explains and quantifies selection and evolution”, the following debate on @ChemistryWorld, and discussion with @Assembling_Life, I wrote this letter for CW on the philosophy of Assembly theory, now out: chemistryworld.com/opinion/l…

Exactly one year since I submitted my PhD thesis - a year full of so many adventures I could have never imagined! And more exciting projects on the philosophy of biochemistry and metaphysics of science in progress and forthcoming 💫
I submitted my PhD thesis while looking at the sunset colouring Athens with gold. I feel a bit like a biochemical kind, as also for me none of this would have been possible without the most wonderful context of people and opportunities around me. Especially, @MetaScienceEU (1/2)

Mine arrived too! One for each member of the family with another to spare.
It’s very nice to see the hard copy of our book “Dispositions and Powers”. But you can access the thing for free forever online here: cambridge.org/core/elements/… check it out for an overview of cutting-edge work on the metaphysics of dispositions and powers! ⁦@tobytfriend⁩

I've got it: metaphysics is therapy for our aversion to arbitrariness.

And here is my debut as contributor for @ChemistryWorld, the official magazine of the Royal Society of Chemistry. In this article, I suggest that scientific categories are vital for research using the history of vitamins 💫
'New concepts can help to guide scientific research, and even originate entire fields of research,' writes @FranciBellazzi. 'Very simply, introducing new categories invites a search for the underlying mechanisms that realise them.' chemistryworld.com/opinion/n…

Very thrilled to see my second paper on the philosophy and metaphysics of genetics “The Gene as a Natural Kind” now out in the volume Life&Mind. I argue that the molecular gene is a natural kind despite its complexity and context dependency (1/3) link.springer.com/chapter/10…

Lots of great talks at the final-ever MetaScience conference! I'll be responding to this paper academic.oup.com/pq/article/… by @tobytfriend which raises some interesting objections to the account of laws of nature I've been developing over the past several years, links below:

The first day’s highlight of the @NoMoS conference: Philip Kitcher delivering the keynote speech titled: theories of scientific explanation—an obituary. In the photo you see the four horsemen of scientific explanation: Hempel, Salmon, Woodward and Kitcher.
