We are very sad and upset about the awful loss of our beloved Director, Professor Michael Wakelam. He was a beacon of positive energy, generosity and kindness to us and numerous friends and colleagues all over the world. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to his family.
The Institute is extremely saddened to announce that Michael Wakelam died yesterday from suspected Covid-19. Our thoughts are with Michael’s family and the many who will miss him. ow.ly/UqBs50z2BoN

A new study in Nature disproves a long-standing idea that multi-celled animals evolved from a single-celled ancestor resembling a modern sponge cell. Instead, it was probably quite similar to a stem cell. Read the paper here: go.nature.com/2ZqVKwF
