ARREST | We arrested four people after a car was stopped in Liverpool in the early hours of this morning, Monday 3 August.
At around 12.50am an officer on uniformed patrol conducted a stop check of a Volkswagen T-Roc on North Hill Street.
As the car was coming to a stop the rear seat passenger got out of the car and ran away. He was pursued by PD Turbo (pictured) and his handler.
Despite numerous warnings that a police dog was present and to stop, the subject continued to attempt to evade detention.
Despite being kicked several times by the offender PD Turbo continued to control the subject until secured by officers.
He received an immediate veterinary check-up and initial assessment is that he has minor cuts and bruises, but no serious injuries.
A second male who made off was also detained on Merlin Street together with two female who were in the car.
Following a search of the car a large quantity of suspected Class C drugs (nitrous oxide canisters) were located together with a Rambo-style knife.
A 17-year-old male from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine); possession with intent to supply a Class C drug; possession of bladed article and causing unnecessary cruelty to a service animal.
A 25-year-old man from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply and possession of a bladed article.
An 18-year-old woman from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply and possession of a bladed article.
A 19-year-old woman from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine), possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply and possession of a bladed article.
All four are currently in custody as enquiries continue.
Matrix Inspector Phil McManus said: “Our police dogs and their handlers frequently put their own safety on the line when it comes to pursuing and detaining offenders.
“PD Turbo was kicked in the face numerous times but was able to continue to detain the male so he could be arrested.
“We are committed to removing drugs and those who chose to sell them from our streets and would ask the public to continue to support us by giving us information.”

🐶 We wanted to give you an update on RPD Sky, who retired back in February!
She is absolutely loving retired life and yesterday featured on the mid-morning show at BBC Radio Merseyside with Inspector Phil McManus, who heads up our Dog Section, and Martin O’Neill from ‘The Retired Police Dog Benevolent Fund for Merseyside’ charity.
Sky, Phil and Martin were invited to the studio to talk about the amazing work of our police dogs in Merseyside, Sky’s career, what happens to police dogs when they retire, and the vital support provided by The Retired Police Dog Benevolent Fund for Merseyside.
She may be retired, but you can’t take the detection skills out of Sky! She was full of beans and very keen to investigate all corners of the studio space – lots to see, hear and of course, smell!
Sky was good as gold during the interview, although she was keen to see what was happening on the mixing desk and didn’t want to miss anything 👀
Our police dogs play a crucial role in keeping communities safe – from tracking suspects, supporting officers in dangerous situations, and protecting the public. Our dogs are part of the policing family. They’re exceptionally well cared for throughout their service, with dedicated handlers who build a strong bond with them and ensure their welfare comes first.
During the interview, Martin said 🗣️ “Police dogs give years of loyal service, and when they retire, they deserve the very best care. Our charity exists to support them in that next stage of their lives.
“When retired, police dogs don’t receive a pension, and vet bills can be significant. We help those who care for the dogs in their retirement by contributing towards those costs so they can get the treatment they need.”
The @MerseysideRPD is run by unpaid volunteers: All money raised is by public donations. The charity has been established to assist those who take on the care of a retired police dog in helping them pay for veterinary bills, as well as supporting the dog in its retirement 💙

With very hot temperatures due to hit #Merseyside this Bank Holiday weekend, PD's Ember, Ziggy, Buddy and Ghost have come up with a few handy reminders to help you stay safe and enjoy the sunshine! 🌞
🏖️ Staying safe in the sun | The good weather will mean many of us will visit beaches, parks and outdoor areas. Remember to always keep an eye on your belongings, and young people. If you witness any anti-social behaviour, remember you can report it by sending a message to @MerPolCC reporting on our website or calling 101.
⛔️ Avoid open water | Whilst it can be tempting to take a dip in reservoirs, canals, docks and the sea, these open water sources are dangerous, even for strong swimmers. If you do find yourself in the water and you’re experiencing difficulties remember the @RNLI “float to live” advice which you can find on their website.
🪟 Lock doors and windows | In hot weather, it’s tempting to leave doors and windows open. This can be an invitation to burglars, so remember to close and lock your doors and windows before you go out, when you leave a room unattended or when you go to bed, to avoid becoming a victim of burglary.
❤️ Look after yourself | The @NHSuk has some great advice and tips for protecting yourself in the sun, which you can read on their website.

Around 300 police officers flooded the area of #Anfield, conducting warrants, roadside checks, land searches and more in a sustained and relentless offensive against criminals operating in our local communities.
Chief Constable Rob Carden said the operation would make a big difference to the lives of decent, law-abiding people and more was to come 🗣️ “The huge scale and impact of yesterday’s operation should have left criminals in absolutely no doubt – Merseyside Police has a complete contempt for criminality and if you are involved, we will turn up at your door, we will stop you in your car, and we will arrest you.
“And if anyone thinks they can profit from criminality, they can think again, because we will take any cash, clothes, jewellery and watches we suspect have been paid for with ill-gotten gains. Crime most definitely does not pay.
“People in #Merseyside can expect to see a series of more focussed operations in the near future, as well as more Operation Vanguards elsewhere in Merseyside. Our work to bring criminals to justice and protect our communities continues 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Today PD Quga will retire from the force 💙
Quga joined us in January 2020 and licenced as a General-Purpose Police Dog in April that year.
Within a matter of weeks of being a Police Dog, Quga showed her handler how incredible she was truly going to be!
She has produced so many amazing results and we couldn’t be prouder of her ✨
Outside of work Quga enjoyed nothing more than chilling at home with her handler and family living alongside her K9 partner, PD Obi. She thrived most when she was in the midst of dealing with criminals wanting to take her on, she really enjoyed nothing more.
Quga developed her own reputation of being a powerful and strong dog, not only with colleagues, but also in neighbouring forces and her legacy will never be forgotten 💪
She continued week in week out to deliver results and bring countless criminals to justice, many of whom felt the real force and consequence of committing crime when she was on duty.
Speaking about PD Quga, her handler said: “The best compliment I can pay her is that to work with her has been an absolute privilege.
“Her true loyalty and dedication are something I will always remember.”
Thank you for your service PD Quga, you will be truly missed by us all ❤️
