What bothers you about Toronto: ER waits, homelessness, crowded classrooms, empty storefronts, is because of Doug Ford not Olivia Chow

We have Love Island. We have Survivor. We have The Bachelor. Now please make a show where you put a billionaire CEO in a regular apartment, give them their lowest-paid employee’s paycheck, and tell them it has to last 30 days. I’d watch every episode.

Just maybe: -$2.2 billion on an Austrian spa was a bad idea -$1 billion on a new Science Centre was a bad idea -$1.4 billion on early alcohol sales was a bad idea -$3.2 billion on pre-election bribe cheques was a bad idea -MPPs Bethlenfalvy and Surma are out of touch
In the middle of an all day cabinet meeting, Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy and Treasury Board President Kinga Surma are warning about the possibility of tough decisions and belt tightening ahead

The government doesn't need the money, and it casts deserved doubt on Carney's overall "build Canada" narrative. Why then would he do it? Cuz there are investment bankers whispering in his ear who would make hundreds of millions from floating the deals. /6

I don’t see anyone talking about privatizing VIA Rail. It’s terribly run. It has appalling service. Nowhere to go but up. But people looking for government assets aren’t interested in turning badly-run Crown corps around. They want sure winners. Essential infrastructure.

Can someone please explain to me what reason (if any) there is not to view US hedge funds' gaining direct or indirect interests in Canadian critical infrastructure as a THREAT to our safety? Did United Fruit Company investment help protect central america? (1/2)

Ontario's new subway cars: built in Maryland. Our highway maintenance: Texas. Our teachers' supplies: Staples. You awarded $140M at Mississauga's new hospital to a U.S. firm and sent WSIB work to Boston. Premier, if Buy Ontario is the law, you're breaking it.
NEW: The Ford government is warning municipalities that if they don’t follow “buy Ontario” procurement policies they could be cut off from provincial funding: “Failure to comply with Buy Ontario requirements will force us to reconsider provincial funding made available to municipalities, in addition to other consequences.” #onpoli

This clown is piling on debt faster than any Premier in history.
The people of Ontario elected us to protect what matters most. We can't keep spending on the taxpayers' credit card without expecting the bill to come due. This year, we'll spend $12.5 billion paying interest on debt, money that should be going to education and health care.

The proposal to privatise operation of major airports to private investors (who will charge royally for it) muddles PM Carney’s message about “building Canada.” This builds nothing, but imposes new risks and costs on Canadians. I spoke with @andrewcbc for @CBCNews. #cdnpoli
Economist Jim Stanford on opening airports to private investors: "Whether the actual land is still publicly owned or not is almost a moot point. This is going to be Highway 407 of the skies."

To bring a new electric toothbrush to market you would be subject to safety-related regulatory oversight for electrical products, medical devices, and consumer products, but the thing with a >10% chance of killing all humans in the next decade hurtles ahead without guardrails.
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

Hey Doug, are you going to order the permanent closure of the Rogers Centre? The Ontario Science Centre was permanently shutdown because it needed minor roof repairs.
Toronto’s Rogers Stadium sustained “significant damage” during Wednesday’s powerful thunderstorms, with CP24 / CTV News Toronto helicopter video showing rows of bleacher seats tangled and destroyed with debris scattered across the venue. 🔗cp24.com/local/toronto/2026/…

Hoekstra attending the 9/11 ceremony in Gander is a travesty to the good Canadians who welcomed Americans. I hope they remind him of that and then he takes his insults to Canadians with him as he leaves our country.

Ford says: "when you are at war, you protect your own. You don't go to the U.S. and buy a product." Ford signs exclusive $66 million deal for school supplies with Staples, an American corporation. Staples rewards Ontario taxpayers with higher prices on their products. #onpoli

Ontario's new subway cars: Maryland. Our highway maintenance: Texas. Our teachers' supplies: American-owned Staples. Doug Ford has been playing Captain Canada for 18 months – but every one of these deals still stands. Recall the legislature so we can cancel the U.S. contracts.
