Yamanaka Factors Can Reverse Neuronal Aging Yamanaka factors can reverse the aging process in neurons, offering a potential treatment for neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. In a study using mice, scientists introduced these factors into mature brain cells, which improved synaptic connections, stabilized cell metabolism, and normalized epigenetic profiles. This rejuvenation of neurons led to better motor and social behaviors without any negative side effects. The study provides new insights into how neuronal aging could be reversed, potentially preventing or slowing neurodegenerative conditions. By precisely controlling the application of these factors, the risk of abnormal cell growth was avoided. These findings open the door for future research into cell reprogramming as a therapeutic tool for brain disorders.
