I do not believe in hitting children for any reason. It’s a failure on your part as a parent if it comes to where you think hitting a child is the best option.

My own hot take is that hitting children is lazy parenting. You don’t want to do the work required to regulate your own emotions, reason with them, and find alternatives for effective discipline. Carrying a cane to inflict pain because, “that would teach them to behave” just feels so much easier. And if you really took some time to introspect, you’d realize that’s what it is.
Can children be overwhelming? Yes. Can parenting be frustrating? Yes! (I’ve worked with kids and helped raised kids within my community, it’s hard work! There’s no disputing that). But at the end of the day, they’re childreeennn! If at your big adult age, you still misbehave, struggle to get things right, make mistakes, get upset, throw tantrums, “snap” when you’re overwhelmed, how much more CHILDRENNNNN!
The problem is we automatically view them as stubborn, as they know exactly what they’re doing but are being willfully errant. And maybe, sometimes, that’s the case. But you also have to consider that they’re over stimulated, they’re overwhelmed. They’re confused. They’re sad. Upset, temperamental, hurt, insecure, etc. And they don’t have effective tools yet for dealing with all of these emotions without acting out.
Yes, kids need discipline, but your only or most common form of discipline cannot be beating. You shouldn’t even be hitting children at all. All the beating you received, what did it do but instil fear in you? Sometimes, hatred. Sometimes, a sense of worthlessness and brokenness. Sometimes, silence. Sometimes, a reinforcement of the very behaviour you were beaten for.
Think back carefully to all the times you were beaten as a kid for a behaviour, was it the beating that made you change that behaviour (if you did), or was it fear and pain? Is that what you want to teach your kids? Especially if that behaviour can be corrected through other means of discipline that won’t leave them emotionally and physically scarred?

Mind you, as adults, you appreciate it when people are gentle and kind to you when you can’t do things an adult should ideally be able to do but children should be spanked for being children 🙂↔️🙂↔️🙂↔️

You turned out fine but can’t resolve conflict without blowing up.
You turned out fine but any discomfort you run away.
You turned out fine but you’re scared of authority.
You turned out fine but resist healthy love.
You turned out fine but struggle to express yourself.

The problem is that we expect children who have lived on this earth for less than 5years to know what we know, understand what we understand, regulate how we regulate. How is that possible? They have literally been on this earth for a few years

adults in their 20s, 30s, heck even 50s are still working on emotional regulation btw. but yeah a 6 year old CHILD should “know the right thing to do” always. disgusting rats

I remember someone talking about spanking her child for mistakenly spilling water so I asked her what she did when she spilled water. She was like I get a rag to clean it, so I asked her why she didn’t spank herself and she was like “it’s a mistake”.

Your children are deserving of their dignity preserved. You won’t record yourself hitting an adult half naked, post them online and then claim that you did it because you love them. It is well.

Even if it’s significantly lesser amount than your parents
Children are deeply under protected; imagine a video of an adult in that way?
Why do you want to immortalize something like that digitally?
Why do Nigerians think evolution in parenting style means permissive parenting?

Well, yes, considering that many of them don’t adhere to it and use it as a tool to shame women from being sexually active or even talking about sexual experiences. Even the Bible says it was written by men (through “inspiration” from God), the male bias is clearly there.
"I don't believe in the Bible. It's man made."
Y'all really think a group of MEN sat in a room and decided 'No sex BEFORE marriage'?

I don't understand how girls in African countries can see how many older women have had to claw in our societies because they didn't have their own money, and still be tempted to want financial dependence on a man. It makes zero sense to me. Even as a joke it's not funny.
A lot of you women are living in La la land fr, and at some point you need to sit up and stop making men’s money the centre of your life. Please face your life and work for your own money. Financial independence is not just about being able to afford nice things. It’s also about having choices, maintaining your dignity and being able to leave situations that no longer serve you.

You people enjoy performing for an audience because i don’t get how you dont see that it’s utterly redundant to post a child in his underwear getting flogged because you want strangers to clap for your version of parenting
Not only is it odd it’s wrong

It’s a very Nigerian thing to not even consider the fact that children are also entitled to dignity. It’s why we end up with the kind of adults we have. A shame really

Nigerians think treating children with dignity even when they are wrong is ‘sparing the rod’. Sounding like abusers every time. That’s why the country is in the state that it’s in and I’m not even joking

New Age content creators are whipping their overstimulated kids before asking them what they want so they can show the world they are anti gentle parenting.
