This is absolutely fascinating! @CwNewbie11 @KHarrisHistory @CWBreakfastClub Crazy question; I wonder did anyone in the armies mention this in journals/diaries, they migrated at a time and place where they would have been observed in large numbers, especially in the 1860’s.

Can’t think of a better way to celebrate the Navy’s birthday than getting to see one of our ships steaming by near Yorktown!
This is simply mind blowing, I hope to see that forest in Mexico one day.

Another fascinating part of this book on the Naval War of 1812 is prize money. I did not realize prize money was also taken into account with slaves; as Melville so aptly put it, ‘it’s a wicked world in all meridians.’
Enjoyed an anniversary meal a week early at Fogo de Chao here in Norfolk. Having our daughter with us made it even more special, I’m extremely blessed and thankful for these two in my life.
Fantastic essay; concise and hits the mark. Recently finished this excellent new biography…at sea appropriately enough!

Snoopy is the most patriotic character in the comics, without a doubt. 🇺🇸
What’s cool about this story is the Folger family was involved in Nantucket whaling, coffee and Standard Oil, the thing that replaced whale oil; all that and 5 bucks will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks…named of course for the first mate in….you guessed it…..Moby Dick!
Emily Croke won the game and blew away Ken Jennings with her connection to the answer. huffpost.com/entry/jeopardy-…
Enjoying a nice London Fog at Starbucks with a good book on the age of fighting sail. Of course at Starbucks a London Fog is called a ‘Sam Enderby’, make sure your barista there knows that!
