As an iPhone Duo specific thing this back bar on the side is so disgusting. I would way rather just relegate that information to being very small at the top of the screen.

Complaining about app optimization on an unreleased product seems unfair. I suspect this will be a similar situation to when the iPhone X released and 99% of commonly used apps were fixed within a month.

I don’t understand how the PD170 is being pushed as feeling like a glass mousepad. It’s not even close to the fastest cloth pad I’ve used.

While I do like this design, I think it is not at all visually distinctive. If this were a car Lamborghini released, no one would have batted an eye at it. I also have a massive problem with it being a completely different design than what people put down their $250K deposits for back in 2017.
Our design language has evolved since the last reveal: from S3XY to Cybertruck, Cybercab & Optimus Roadster is inspired by the SR-71 & F-35

Hot take, this is a good looking car. The initial marketing for it just sucked and it was a disaster using pink as the reveal color. This thing in matte black just screams futuristic movie villain/gangster car.

Will be interesting to see what the trade in / second hand value on the Duo will be next year. Traditionally foldables have had terrible second hand value because of their perception of being fragile and wearing out with use. But on the other hand iPhones traditionally hold stellar second hand value. Still, it wouldn’t at all surprise me if the lease pricing was a better value than buying the phone.
Folks gonna be killing Klarna for that iPhone Duo preorder.

The incredibly sad reality of this situation is that Helicopters should be all but irrelevant for news applications. Hybrid power drones exist that offer hours of flight time that can be equipped with very high quality cameras. They are also significantly cheaper to own and operate than a helicopter. Seen too many tragic helicopter incidents in recent years that I believe their use should be minimized whenever possible.
BREAKING: TV news helicopter crashes during live shot of bus crash in Los Angeles. The helicopter belongs to NBC Los Angeles (KNBC-TV). No word yet on casualties.

Initial thoughts on the iPhone Duo. I hate the form factor they chose. I also have the same criticism of Samsung with the form factor shift they made with the Fold 8. The Fold 7 was significantly closer to what I want in a foldable. The folded form factor should be the size of a normal phone. I want a Galaxy Fold to be the size of the Ultra phone and the iPhone Duo to be size of a Pro Max on the exterior. The reason Apple and many others have cited as their reasoning for going against this thinking is that it leads to large black bars when watching video. I am unsure why this is an issue? It’s an OLED display with true black. Why are we simply ignoring the added benefit of a much larger internal display and a much more usable outer display purely for the sake of avoiding black bars? The then side effect of this decision is the folded form factor of the phone is significantly too wide. The Duo looks nearly impossible to use one handed while folded. Many people already criticize modern large display phones as being hard to reach across one handed. The Duo and Z Fold 8 are now even wider making this problem significantly worse. The internal screen being matte I have reservations with. I understand this was done to almost entirely remove a visible crease. The reflection of light on the crease is a main contributing factor in what makes it visible. The Duo by far has the least visible crease on the market. I do have my standard concerns with all matte coatings on OLEDs with boosted black levels. I also find it very likely the inner screen being almost unusable in direct sunlight because of how much light it will diffuse. Another thing I disliked about both the Duo and the Z Fold is how both compromise on cameras compared to the brand’s flagship offerings. I understand this is because of space limitations but it feels very bad as the end user to pay this much for a device and sacrifice on a feature like the cameras Other small Duo specific thoughts. I have concerns about the volume buttons and action button being on the top edge of the phone. I could see that as potentially feeling awkward to use. The under display inner camera I have no issue with. I don’t care about selfies and the camera looks plenty sufficient for video calls. If you care about front camera quality you still have the traditional outer screen selfie camera. Overall most of my criticisms of the Duo are more along criticisms of industry-wide design decisions with foldables. I will likely still give the Duo a try with the 18 Pro being a very boring device.

Apple Watch charging is such a non-issue. Throw it on the charger whenever you shower and by the time you are ready to head out for the day, take it off and you’ll have at least an 80% charged battery every time.
Apple just said the new Watch is something you wear the whole time, should be worn during sleep, and has up to 24 hours of battery life. Erm... So when do I charge it?

Read the comments on this post. The anti-AI crowd is completely delusional. Super Smash Bros. Melee being 100% decompiled is a huge accomplishment. AI helped accelerate the work, and people are calling the result “slop” because Claude was involved. At this point it doesn’t even matter whether you like AI. This is happening anyway. Arguing against AI in game development is like arguing for horses when cars arrived, or typewriters when computers showed up. You can hate the technology as much as you want. It doesn’t stop everyone else from using it. Five years from now, game devs who completely refuse to touch AI will be obscured into nothingness. There will obviously still be successful games made without AI, just like there are still people making things by hand today, but they’ll be the exception, not the norm. GPT Astra has accelerated this even further. It’s the best model I’ve used for game dev so far, and the important part is that it won’t stay the best for long. Models that feel capable today will be surpassed by even better ones tomorrow. I have zero idea how to code, yet I can already build things in hours that would have taken me months or required hiring developers before. Imagine what this looks like after another five years of model improvements. This is only the beginning. You can adapt or you can spend the next few years calling everything “slop” while the rest of the industry moves on.

Glorious one of the biggest brand fumbles in the PC peripheral scene. The Model O was one of the first to market for a cheap lightweight gaming mouse that rivaled what Finalmouse was doing at the time for a fraction of the price. As time went on they simply refused to innovate with any future products to the point where their products are incredibly mediocre and outdated while being more expensive than offerings from other brands. They are entirely banking on a name cache that they simply do not carry to the level they think they do.
keyboard shopping, we've all been there. pick up a cheap full size, deal with a hollow and rattly mess. drop to a higher quality TKL, and start losing keys you want access to. GMMK Eternal says "no". triple layer sound dampening for more thock 96% layout more room for big mouse moves hot swap switches and oh yeah, RGB. obviously. glorious.gg/GMMKEternal

This aged EXTREMELY well
Hot take. The RAM crisis really isn’t that bad thus far for people who were going to build higher end systems. It definitely is bad for budget gamers and I expect GPU prices this year will be abhorrent. But if you were already looking at building something ~5080 tier if the price of 32gb doing form $80 to $200 is a problem, you really need to reconsider your decisions. Don’t wait, buy it now. $120~ shouldn’t be a deal breaker on a $2500+ system.

Easily the biggest leap forward in video game graphics in almost a decade. This is absolutely insane.
This is INSANE. DLSS 5 AI Neural Filters on Control. Modders have gotten DLSS 5 running on Control via group RenoDX. - Mod by Speedlemur. - Running on a 5060. 86->34 FPS - Costs 40% FPS. Characters only for now. via Benchlab

And people wonder why AMD cards sit despite often being significantly cheaper than Nvidia for comparable performance while having more VRAM. This is exactly why.
I regret switching from an NVIDIA GPU to an AMD GPU. I have had to deal with every issue under the sun with driver issues that come from my 9070 XT this past couple weeks. There are articles about my exact issue, AMD is straight up incompetent and I cannot wait for the day I go back to NVIDIA because this experience has been awful. AMD Adrenalin sucks and is slow, their GPU drivers suck and are unstable. I wish I listened to all the warnings and just bit the couple extra hundred dollars cost of going with a 5070 Ti instead 🫩

The amount of posts I’ve seen from people freaking out over this sale price is great example of how the rich get richer without most people realizing.

Ferrari will donate all proceeds of this charity auction to benefit future educational initiatives through The Ferrari Foundation, a recognized 501(c)(3) public charity. #RMMonterey #RMSothebys #Ferrari #Luce #MontereyCarWeek

All that to still play at 30fps in modern titles
Pc modder has managed to water-cool the new Steam Machine using a custom-made water block, and the results are pretty impressive. The CPU and GPU temperatures reportedly drop by up to 30°C under full load compared with the original cooling system. The setup uses an external pump, radiator and fan, and the Steam Machine had to be modified to make it work. The modder is also working on improving cooling for the VRMs.

A lot of console gamers don’t seem to realize that a lot of titles you don’t actually own even with the physical disc. While you can sell your games if you own the disc, if the game requires you to download large amounts of files from the internet in order to launch, then your disc is just a key. In 25 years when the PS5 servers are long closed you will not be able to play your game even if you own the disc.
