France’s longest river, the Loire, is running dry due to a 'historic drought'. More than 100 towns don't have access to drinking water. The Loire is also the source of cooling water for 12 nuclear power plants.
How many more 'historic events' before we #ActOnClimate?

It is striking how many daily headlines are talking about events that were exacerbated by climate change. Here is just a short rundown from today as an example of the many many ways climate change is affecting us HERE and NOW. Please add any I missed. (Thread)

Thirty years ago, US Democrats & Republicans were on the same page when it came to climate change. Within 15 years, it had become - and remains - the most politically polarized issue in the country. How? The result of deliberate and strategic investment in doubt to delay action.
In 1993 a band of wealthy industrialists allied with a PR firm to battle against scientists. At stake was their wealth. Every climate denier on Twitter is their legacy. As is the rising temperature and the growing list of extinct species #climatechange #netzero #nomoretime

Europe is not just experiencing heatwaves on land.
The Mediterranean Sea is experiencing a brutal marine heatwave this July, which will have devastating impacts on marine ecosystems while also enhancing heatwaves on land.
Water temperatures are as high as 6.2°C above normal!

104.4 F in London. Absolutely obliterates the hottest day ever of 101.8 F and the day is not over yet. This type of day in London simply did not exist before climate change. With climate change, expect the unexpected. Soon heat like this will become routine.
🌡️ For the first time ever, 40 Celsius has provisionally been exceeded in the UK
London Heathrow reported a temperature of 40.2°C at 12:50 today
📈 Temperatures are still climbing in many places, so remember to stay #WeatherAware ⚠️

Today's SCOTUS ruling on EPA vs W Va makes it even harder to address the climate crisis at a time when we need to be doing all we can. (short thread) npr.org/2022/06/30/110359589…

The partisan and anti-science “supreme court” will likely rule on Monday against the EPA’s ability to regulate climate emissions, effectively shutting down the last best avenue for climate action by the US. The ramifications could last thousands of years.

This is legitimately nuts. Mail delivery is quite possibly the perfect use case for electric trucks (most routes <70 miles, constant stop-and-go, etc.), but instead we are locking in two more decades of gas guzzlers. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
