Not only does quality work take time, but we all master skills at different paces. But for some reason kids go to school and are expected to learn an extraordinary amount of standards at the exact same pace as their peers. No surprise the quality is so inconsistent.

I know the title says "companies," but I'd argue most of these qualities are present in successful school cultures as well. What do you think? #sketchnote by @tnvora based on ideas by @LeandroEHerrero #edchat #eduleader

A1 - Mastery Learning simply put is when instruction and learning progress based on mastery of concepts rather than a given amount of time or number of tasks completed by learners. It focuses on understanding of content over tasks or time in seat #formativechat

A1: Mastery learning means we honor every child's starting point. And we develop a path to mastery that can be followed across a progression of standards year after year. Mastery is not age based. It is a process with depth. Learning can get deeper year after year. #formativechat

And what does a zero actually teach a student about what s/he knows and where improvement is needed? A zero is not feedback. A zero does not motivate a S to improve. #learnfwd19 #elachat #ntchat #akedchat #mathchat #tlap #leadlap #akprincipals

I’m learning the hardest part of this job is admitting it’s not them, it’s me. Kids don’t need to be fixed. I just need to get better at knowing what they need and then adjusting what I do to match who they are. All kids deserve high levels of learning.
