Well said Dr Aly. So sorry. Absolutely disgusting this has happened to you and @AlboMP , and beyond obscene that it came from another woman. Violence against women in this country is at epidemic levels. She should be booted from parliament. #auspol

And a quick 'I withdraw' at the dispatch box is a joke, she should have been banned for her comments and a public apology to the PM as well and not just to Anne Aly for her racist and inciting violence racist comment

Those words are not in anyone’s normal speech pattern that might be uttered “in the heat of the moment” There was nothing spontaneous about those words, but an attack designed to hurt Anne Aly in particular.

She looked straight over when delivering the lines. This was not a "spur of the moment" decision. It was calculated and scripted and Bell knew full well what she was implying. She's a disgraceful liar and she should resign immediately.

I don’t care what side of politics you sit on, this is not on. Politicians are becoming more desperately unhinged in an apparent pursuit of notoriety. So much so that they are literally enabling violence and threats against others - particularly women - by their example. It is particularly disturbing in this instance that hateful rhetoric was used by a woman. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised considering Hanson’s notoriety. Gold Coast LNP MP (what a surprise🙄) Angie Bell, told the House of Representatives that Ann Aly and the PM “should be shamed and stoned in square”. As a result of this vitriolic regurgitation, Aly has received 19 death threats in less than a week. It would not surprise me if the PM has also received death threats - but the nature of Bell’s rant would indicate that her comments were aimed at Aly, who is of Egyptian and Arab descent. Historically, stoning as a form of punishment and community justice was practiced among ancient Near Eastern and Arabian populations in the distant past. An interesting association when you consider Bell’s rhetoric. Angie Bell should know something about prejudice. She is the first openly gay liberal MP in The Australian House of Representatives - which makes me even more suspicious about her motives in this instance. If Bell had thought it through, she might have realised that she would be contributing to the open hostility that has been aimed at women and immigrants in this country since it stratosphered on steroids after the coalition lost power and the RW media-coalition echo chamber decided it was going to culture war the fck out of the entire country after its success with the no campaign. Bell might’ve realised that - but she appears to be completely ignorant regarding the problems that women are facing in our society. So much so that she thought she could win a few anti-immigration points by specifically targeting a woman of Egyptian and Arab descent. The consequences of this are not only hate-filled death threats against one woman - but more enablement of hate-filled threats against many other women. Does Angie Bell know what the statistics are regarding violence, abuse, threats and harassment against women? Fifty six women have been k*lled in this country this year. That is more than one woman a week. According to Sherele Moody, Australia has lost more than 1300 women and girls to violence since 2000. A woman or a girl is k*lled by violence every 4 days in this country. An intimate partner k*lls approximately 1 woman every 9 days. Males are responsible for 94% of adult female homicide victims. Approximately 40% of Australian women have experienced physical or sexual violence since the age of 15. That figure is very likely much higher. Worldwide an estimated 840 million women and girls (approximately 1 in 3) have experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Men account for approximately 90% of all homicide suspects globally across all victim genders. Did Angie Bell think about any of this before igniting a pack-hate mentality towards another woman, or was she using her position to stoke notoriety for herself regardless of the consequences? Is she trying to out-hagrid the Hagrid of hate? It would appear that plumbing the depths is becoming the new sport of choice as the coalition attempt to outdo Populists-R-Us. It is a travesty that the fallout of this shyte is not only towards female politicians - but those who are the most vulnerable in our society.

Re sending women to the market to be stoned… let she who is without sin cast the first stone

Bell… said of Minister Aly, of Egyptian and Muslim heritage… she should be taken down the market and stoned. Now she says it was a poor choice of words in the heat of the moment. I say I don’t believe that those words were accidental. They were planned and targeted. Vile.

If Angie Bell thought that was a clever retort, it speaks volumes of the culture of what goes on in the Liberal Party meetings. She needs to be reprimanded.

Where’s the media outrage? Liberal front bench MP Angie Bell calls for the PM to be “ stoned in the square”. She’s calling for an act of violence against the Prime Minister! Imagine if he said that! Plus Labor Minister Anne Aly has had nine death threats in a week. Media…..crickets…:

US has become an vile state
Good to hear @AlboMP speak unequivocally against an “abhorrent” live streaming a US execution. Civilised Australians are disgusted by the death penalty, period, & appalled that such horror would be broadcast. What a savage hyper-violent country the US is. @PatsKarvelas @abcnews

#Afternoonbriefing is just a big Liberal lovefest😵‍💫 with twit Taylor and failed Frydenberg. Allegra Spender blames Labor for discrimination in religious schools; accuses Labor of not supporting small business. Nonstop Labor bashing. Patricia Karvelas nods happily along #auspol

What a treacherous, double-dealing snake is Trump! In the unlikely event China invaded us, he would offer to trade off Northern Australia in a peace deal, insult and belittle us when we wouldn't accept, while plundering our rare minerals in a 'deal'. #AUKUS #ukraine #auspol
