For the umpteenth time, I've tried and failed to see how any Tom, Dick and Harry being able to purchase semi-automatic weapons and tote them round the place contributes to the maintenance of "a well-regulated militia" or "the security of a free State", per the Second Amendment.

It's tempting to laugh at how way off Champions League standard Manchester United are, but given Palace's recent performances and likely fate against Beşiktaş tomorrow evening, it would appear to be inviting disaster.

OK, since when did Sudafed not have pseudoephedrine in it? And wtf is phenylephrine, which has replaced it as an active ingredient? I suspect the answer is 'placebo', in which case why am I not just buying basic paracetamol for 50p a box or whatever?

Spezia have released a 120-year anniversary shirt - inspired by the original colours of Crystal Palace. 👕 The Serie C side were founded in 1906 by Swiss banker Hermann Hurni, who played for the early Palace amateur teams during his time as a student in London. 🤝 #CPFC

I see that Russia and Iran played a friendly football match today. Congratulations to Russia on their 2–0 victory. I wonder if any of the Iranian players were wearing black armbands in protest at Russia's war on Ukraine, or the Russians at Iran's human rights record?

Well, if nothing else, we can firmly put to bed the notion that the performance against Argentina cost England the – World Cup. Spain are just better than us, and mercifully were better than Argentina too. #ENGESP

Clean sheet at Elland Road? We'll take that every day of the week. #cpfc #LEECRY

Yeah? Let's see if they can get past Villa at home tomorrow before they start thinking about Real and Barça, eh?

This Europa League malarkey is a piece of piss. Although I think it's fair to say the scoreline flatters us rather. #cpfc #CRYLPO #UEL

We’ve seen this 100 times, and it still doesn’t hurt to watch it for the 101st time! This is the most surreal escape you’ll ever see. 😂

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

Yes, well, I suppose we must allow the Scots to have their fun. My buddy Jim would approve, no doubt. @bbcproms

And invade France.
Time to end our long and disastrous experiment with Catholic emancipation.

Preach.
So the reality of the Tourism Tax. You all think that it is great because only forriners pay it? All the Mayors are wetting their knickers and pee-ing in their pants at the chance to gouge some money out of visitors - well really out of hotels tbf. The posturing pointless mayor of a declining Northern city whacks on the impost, raises two or three million and splurges it at favoured pet (get me re-elected) "communidy" projects plus a few extra buses. A couple of hotels shut up shop but no biggie 'cos we've a regen scheme that will turn those hotels into cheap flats (they don't put it that way it will be "huge investment in new apartment living opportunities" complete with a picture of the mayor holding something conveniently covering over her wet pants). If you're in charge of Florence, Venice or Athens then tourism taxes make sense - they help control visitor numbers in places that can barely contain those numbers. If you're Birmingham, much though I love the place, none of this applies. You want every visitor pound you can get your mitts on. And taxing those pounds so you can fund a multicultural centre in Aston really doesn't help. Except maybe with a vote or two. Screw the visitor economy, get re-elected may be a good personal strategy, it ain't good for your city's economy.

This is such a monumentally dangerous assertion. Education is absolutely about things children can't do. Like read, write, add up and subtract numbers, read a map, draw a likeness...none of these things are innate they have to be taught.
I think education should be about what you can do, and not what you can’t do. Read my full piece in @theobserveruk where I set out my vision for reforming England's education system - from tackling the SEND crisis to reimagining what success looks like beyond exams. observer.co.uk/news/national…
