ALT MMMS Walk #19 Ghodbunder Fort Heritage Walk with Raamesh GR An obscure corner of Salsette island today, Ghodbunder was once contested by the Portuguese, the British, the Mughals, the Nizamshahis and the Marathas for its importance in the horse trade. For reasons that delighted the Persians, Omanis and Yemenis, Indians never figured a way to breed horses, importing Arabian horses over the seas and paying exorbitant sums for them. The walk will cover the site of this legendary trade and the little that remains of this contested legacy. We will visit 1. The Mansão de Menezes aka Ghodbunder fort 2. The chapel turned collector's rest house turned MTDC resort turned gambling den 3. The great baobab 4.
