Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. Five elements, yes. But also the names of five hills of marble and limestone that rise abruptly from Da Nang’s flat coastline. For centuries, the artisans of Non Nuoc village at the foothills have carved the local marble into statues. Walk up the largest of them, Thuy Son, the Water Mountain, on the #VietVacay tour of Vietnam with Khaki Tours from 12-19 Dec '26 to see caves, pagodas and Hindu and Buddhist grottoes carved into the stone. The highlight is the Huyen Khong cave, where sunlight pours through a hole in the rock above and mixes with the smoke of incense, lighting a seated Buddha in a beam of gold.

#JORDANJAUNT DIARIES DAY 1 – DESERT MAGIC IN WADI RUM 🇯🇴 🏜️
Our first ever #JordanJaunt tour took off yesterday with an early morning flight from Mumbai. We landed at Amman, Jordan’s capital city, and were gifted traditional Jordanian shemaghs as keepsakes of the trip. After completing airport formalities, we boarded our bus and set off towards the Wadi Rum desert.
We stopped for lunch on the way and continued towards the breathtaking desert wilderness, famous for its towering sandstone mountains, dramatic rock formations and vast expanses of reddish sand. By early evening, we checked into our desert camp and had time to relax amid these spectacular surroundings.
As night fell, we went stargazing on the dunes, beneath a vast desert sky sparkling with countless stars.
Dinner was a traditional Bedouin feast – meat and vegetables slow-cooked in an underground sand oven, allowing the flavours to develop beautifully.
It was an unforgettable introduction to Jordan, and we look forward to Day 2 when we will explore the Wadi Rum desert further.

There’s much more to Cambodia than just the magnificent Angkor Wat temple – floating villages, French colonial architecture, the royal palace of Phnom Penh, the brutal regime of the Khmer Rouge, and of course, temples and more temples built by the Hindu Khmer dynasty. #JORDANJAUNT DIARIES DAY 2 – A DESERT ADVENTURE IN WADI RUM 🇯🇴
Day 2 of our first ever #JordanJaunt tour of Jordan was an incredible day, spent exploring the otherworldly landscapes of Wadi Rum. After breakfast, we set off on a four-hour guided jeep safari through Jordan’s magnificent red desert. Our guests felt they were in the rover on Mars, seeing the dramatic rock formations, the towering sandstone mountains, and endless stretches of rosy pink sand.
Our adventure took us to Siq Um Al Tawaqi, a canyon where Lawrence of Arabia’s face has been carved in the rock, and the fascinating Khazali Canyon with its ancient petroglyphs. The highlights for our guests were the majestic Seven Pillars of Wisdom, a towering rock formation of sandstone and granite, and the spectacular natural land bridge at Um Frouth.
After lunch at our desert camp, we undertook a memorable train journey aboard the historic Hijaz Railway, stepping back into the era of the Arab Revolt of 1916 and the legendary Lawrence of Arabia. The vintage train ride brought the region’s fascinating history vividly to life.
We then departed for Petra, a two-hour bus journey away. After a day filled with adventure, history and breathtaking scenery, we look forward to discovering the magnificent ancient city of Petra on Day 3!

During the hardship of the Khmer Rouge years, villagers in Cambodia apparently turned to the spiders and insects freely available in the countryside to survive. They would dig tarantulas out of their burrows, bread them, fry them in hot oil with garlic and serve them with fresh herbs. What began as survival became a crunchy snack. At the roadside market in the village of Skuon (aptly nicknamed “Spiderville”), and on Pub Street in Siem Reap, they’re still sold by the tray, alongside crickets, silkworms, grasshoppers, scorpions and other critters. If you dare, take a bite on the #AngkorAndMore tour of Cambodia with Khaki Tours from 21-28 Nov '26.

The Amir Timur Square at the centre of Tashkent has a statue of Timur the Conqueror, a symbol of modern-day Uzbekistan, as its centrepiece. But it wasn’t always so. The saga of the statues here reflects the twists and turns of Central Asian history for over a century. When the town square was created in 1882 under Tsarist Russia, it didn’t have a statue. In 1913, a statue of General Konstantin von Kaufmann, the first Russian governor-general of Turkestan, went up. But four years later, after the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks tore it down and raised a Soviet flag on its granite pedestal. After that, the square’s centrepiece changed almost as often as its rulers: a hammer and sickle, an obelisk for the Revolution’s tenth anniversary, a bust of Lenin, a statue of Stalin that stood for fourteen years, and, in 1968, after an earthquake had reshaped the city, a colossal bronze head of Karl Marx. After the Soviet Union fell in 1991, Marx made way for the new hero: Amir Timur on horseback.
Explore the square at the heart of Tashkent on the #UltimateUzbek tour of Uzbekistan with Khaki Tours from 26 Oct – 2 Nov '26.

From the outside, it looks like an ordinary school building, no different from those you see in Mumbai. But inside, it was a prison. When the Khmer Rouge took over Phnom Penh in 1975, they converted the Tuol Svay Prey school into Security Prison 21, better known as S-21. It was an interrogation and detention centre for people the regime branded its enemies, among them intellectuals, officials of the old government and even its own cadres. An estimated 14,000 to 20,000 people passed through its gates, and only a dozen or so are known to have survived. Today it is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and its buildings have been left largely as they were found when Vietnamese forces drove the regime out in 1979. Classrooms are divided into small brick cells, rooms hold iron bedframes and the instruments used on prisoners, whole walls are covered in black-and-white portraits that the guards themselves took of the people they held, and paintings by Vann Nath, one of the few survivors, show scenes of life inside the prison.
Visit it on the #AngkorAndMore tour of Cambodia with Khaki Tours from 21-28 Nov '26. It is a sobering visit, and an important one for understanding the evil that humanity is capable of inflicting upon itself.

At Aswan, the Nile squeezes through a belt of granite and breaks into dark boulders and islands, a picturesque stretch made for exploring by boat. Hop onto a felucca, one of the traditional slender wooden sailboats with a white lateen sail that have worked this river for centuries, and set off to explore the islands of the First Cataract. Look up to the terraces of the Old Cataract Hotel, the place where Agatha Christie is said to have plotted Death on the Nile. Slide past Elephantine Island and its grey rocks rounded like bathing elephants. Pass by Kitchener’s Island, a green wave of palms and rare trees rising out of the water, gathered from Africa, India and the Far East. Watch the pink sandstone Aga Khan Mausoleum glow on the western bank, and the rock-cut Tombs of the Nobles stare down from the hillside. And stop by a village on the banks to experience the life of the Nubians, the native residents of the region stretching from Aswan into northern Sudan. Set sail on the Nile on the #EyeOnEgypt tour of Egypt with Khaki Tours from 5-14 Dec '26.

Sri Lanka gained its independence from the British. But before them, the Portuguese and the Dutch had each held its coastline. The Dutch legacy survives in the Burghers, Sri Lankans of mixed Dutch and local descent, and in structures such as the Dutch Museum in Colombo. The museum is housed in the former residence of the governor of Dutch Ceylon, a colonial building with eight white columns. Over the years it has been a seminary and orphanage, an army hospital and barracks, a police training school and a post office. When plans were made to tear it down, the Royal Asiatic Society and the Dutch Burgher Union fought to save it, and it reopened in 1982 as the Dutch Period Museum. Step through the veranda into the garden courtyard, and the city’s din fades. Inside, over 3,000 objects, from heavy Dutch furniture and ceramics to coins, maps and weapons, show how the Dutch lived, traded and ruled in Colombo from the 17th century until 1796.
Visit the museum on the #LureOfLanka tour of Sri Lanka with Khaki Tours from 14-21 Nov '26.

After the young pharaoh Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in 1922, its treasures lay scattered across museums in display cases and storerooms till 2025. Now they are all displayed together in the Tutankhamun gallery at the newly-opened Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. View the boy-king's mummified food, his collection of shoes, his ornaments, his personal items, his gilded thrones and grand chariots, all totalling over 4,500 pieces, all buried with him for use in his afterlife. #ULTIMATEUZBEK DIARIES – DAY 7 🇺🇿
Day 7 of our #UltimateUzbek tour of Uzbekistan was also our last day in the country.
We had a relaxed start to the day, and our first stop was the top floor gallery of the iconic Soviet-built Hotel Uzbekistan for a bird’s eye view of the city. We then saw the city at the ground level with a walking tour around the main city square, Amir Timur Square.
We then hopped in and out of Metro trains to see Tashkent’s magnificent Metro stations, each one with a different design theme.
It was then time for a sombre moment. We paid a floral tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who died in Tashkent while in office, at his memorial.
After lunch, we visited the Museum of Applied Arts and the Hazrat Imam mosque.
Our last stop was at Chorsu Bazaar for last minute shopping. Then, after an Indian dinner, we left for the airport to catch our flight back home.

#BEYONDBALI DIARIES – DAY 1️⃣2️⃣ 🇮🇩
On Day 12 of our first ever #BeyondBali tour of Indonesia, we explored eastern Bali. Our first stop was Klungkung – for centuries, the highest kingdom on the island.
There, we visited the former Klungkung Royal Palace complex, more specifically, its public hall for justice and governance – Kertha Gosa. Instead of looking around, our guests had to look up. Its ceiling depicts stories of moral conduct, karma, heavenly reward and punishment, and the adventures of Bima Sena in the afterworld.
We then climbed up the slopes of Mt Agung, Bali's highest and most sacred volcano, to the Besakih temple complex on the top. Since the 15th century, it has been regarded as the central, holiest temple for the entire island. Our guests also participated in the prayers.
After lunch with a full, unobstructed view of Mt Agung, we drove back to the hotel to enjoy our last evening in Bali.
Next morning, after breakfast, we will fly back home.

The Vietnam War was the darkest chapter in the country’s history. Beneath the forests near Ho Chi Minh City lies one of its most haunting remnants: the Cu Chi Tunnels.
These are vast underground tunnel networks spread across kilometres where soldiers lived, cooked, planned, and vanished right under the enemy’s feet. Camouflaged trapdoors, secret bunkers, smoke-diverting kitchens – everything was built to outsmart enemy forces.
🕳️ Did you know? You can crawl through parts of the tunnels yourself, and even fire a real AK-47 at this war site. Vietnam is more than a leisure destination. Explore its history deeper (literally) with Khaki Tours on the #VietVacay tour from 12-19 Dec '26.

Just a short drive away from Siem Reap lies a living legacy of Cambodia’s old “Silk Road.” Silk-making in Cambodia goes back a thousand years and the country is known for its distinctive and rare golden silk, unlike the white silk that is more commonly found around the world. However, the local craft traditions that produced this silk were almost lost during the brutal period of the Khmer Rouge regime, and since the 1990s, special efforts have been made to revive this once glorious tradition.
You can still see Cambodian silk being made the traditional way at one of the silk farms that are conserving this ancient practice. Witness the entire process from silkworms feeding on mulberry leaves, to the worms forming into cocoons, to the cocoons being unravelled into golden silk fibres, to the fibres being spun into silk thread, to the threads being dyed with natural colours, and finally the dyed threads being woven into exquisite silk handicrafts that you can also buy, on the #AngkorAndMore tour with Khaki Tours from 21-28 Nov '26.
