Check your ballot.
If something doesn’t look right, or you make a mistake, ask for a new one — it’s your right.
Don’t put your name or any identifying marks on it.
Speak up. Your vote depends on it.

Whenever I'm feeling demoralized, I think of my parishioner John Lewis.
He had no reason to think that he would win when he was crossing the Edmund Pettus bridge.
But he just kept walking. We MUST keep walking.
“Most of us have small, sad places in our hearts. My father felt deeply but kept his feelings to himself. Or rather, being a writer, he let them escape in his writing. And so such sadnesses as there were put on cap and bells and emerged as Eeyore.”~C.R.Milne #WorldMentalHealthDay
Pooh scrambled up as quickly as he could. “Did I fall on you, Piglet?”
“You fell on me.”
“I didn’t mean to,” said Pooh sorrowfully.
“I didn’t mean to be underneath,” said Piglet sadly. “But I’m all right now, Pooh, and I am so glad it was you.” ~A.A.Milne #friendship

Reading books saved my life as a teenager, the library was a safe place. I met my heroes who freed slaves, fought wars and became presidents. Marian Anderson, Mary McLeod Bethune, FDR, Dr King, John F Kennedy Golda Meir and Harvey Milks. Books never punched my face in school for being gay.

Opposition to the death penalty isn't about Christa Pike's humanity. It's about ours. I oppose capital punishment not because of who she is, but because of who we should be.
It's easy to oppose the death penalty when the condemned is sympathetic.
Christa Pike is not.
She is 50 and has been on Tennessee's death row for more than 30 years. Her crime was heinous and awful - facts she readily admits in her properly medicated maturity. Her boyfriend, who participated in the same crime, received life, while she received death - a sentence that is to be carried out in about an hour.
I understand those who want her executed - especially the victim's family, who have waited over 30 years for what they feel is justice.
But the true test of a moral stance isn't when it's easy. It's when it's hardest.

The United States remains one of the few nations still carrying out state executions. It is long past time to end it.

If we start punishing young rapists maybe we will stop electing old ones president.

“We live in the age of search engines that offer us thousands of instantaneous answers. Yet, no matter how powerful they may be, they merely return what already exists and tend to give us what we already want. In the age of technology and consumerism, the great danger is not only censorship but also homogenization, and not merely imposed silence but the noise that makes it impossible to listen.
“Art is a different kind of ‘search engine.’ It does not proceed by indexing but by inquiry. Indeed, its inquiry is a focused attention that is not satisfied with the mere sum of facts, for it never ceases to dig deeper, seeking the thread that unites them. Your art, when it resists homogenization, when it draws our gaze, when it compels us to pause before that which cannot be consumed, is a form of cultural and spiritual regeneration.” — Pope Leo XIV

The government is deliberately killing its citizens and masking it as a medical procedure — which the people involved are not trained to do. The Supreme Court allows maximum secrecy about the process and will not demand transparency.

The attempted killing of Christa Pike is one more exposure of the cruelty involved in the death penalty, now masked as a medicinal death (“putting someone to sleep”).
