#MDFR INCIDENT UPDATE NO. 2: SEPT. 6 - 6:25 P.M.
On Sunday, Sept. 6, at 1:55 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) received reports of a hazardous situation involving a cargo plane that struck multiple vehicles near Miami International Airport.
More than 60 #MDFR units and approximately 200 personnel responded, arriving to find an airplane that had stopped beyond the airport operational boundary with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters encountered a complex engine compartment fire and used foam from specialized airport firefighting units to extinguish the flames. Crews conducted search and rescue operations, locating and assessing patients throughout the scene.
One person was trapped under one of the involved vehicles and had to be extricated by specialized MDFR technical rescue personnel. Specialized MDFR hazardous materials units safely shut down the aircraft’s engine and worked to mitigate a fuel leak.
MDFR transported five patients to local area hospitals.
We are now operating in a supportive role, with units remaining on scene to assist partner agencies and mitigate an ongoing fuel leak.
There are no public safety concerns for our Miami-Dade community. We ask that the area be avoided if possible, as this is an ongoing incident.

🚨 Florida Congressional District 24 voters, I need you to listen up.🚨
Early voting has started across Florida, and if you live in CD-24, I’m asking you to vote for @ShevrinJones.
Here’s why.
We have watched Black representation get stripped away across the South. Florida just went through another congressional redistricting process this year, and we have seen what happens when politicians get to choose their voters instead of voters choosing their politicians.
If Democrats take back the House, I want people like Shevrin Jones in Congress advocating for voting rights and fighting against the continued erosion of Black political representation.
And I want him to be a voice pushing us toward a system where politicians aren’t drawing congressional districts for their own political benefit.
Let Shevrin be a voice for the South.
Let him advocate for communities that have lost representation and are still fighting to regain it.
Because here’s the other thing we cannot forget: the next census is coming in 2030.
We have four years.
We can prepare for what’s coming, but we have to put the right people in place now with the right mindset to help us get over this hurdle and protect representation for our communities.
