#metronomehaiti

The 8-12-80 Rule, an essay I share with my students: Only 8% of their learning happens in class, with me. 12% comes from their TAs. 80% comes from their time outside of class, with each other.
If we believe this, how should change how we teach and learn? medium.com/@harvardeducation…

Building community strengthens our sense of belonging!
3 years ago, when I walked through the doors of the Harvard Kennedy School straight from Haiti, I had a million questions in my head but the loudest one was “where are my Haitians on campus?” I quickly started a small WhatsApp group called “Haitians at Harvard” and started adding everyone I could find 1 by 1. I met really wonderful people and decided jointly to put together a yearly event not only to find each other and discuss how we could better impact Haiti together but also to make Harvard more accessible to the community beyond us. I am so proud to see us growing into our 3rd edition this year and that is just the beginning!
This year we welcomed Dany Laferriere at Harvard! Our theme was to discuss how collaboration can lead us to stronger impact in Haiti. I moderated a panel with Moise Anilus Gregory Toussaint and Solanges Vivens where the takeaways were to cultivate intellectual humility, chart a vision, to lead and rally partners and build an ecosystem. These are ideas deeply engraved in the person I am becoming!
We also welcomed inspiring entertainment from Pierre Gardy Fontaine and Sephora Drouillard and remarks the Harvard Caribbean Club (Michelle Jean-Louis and Chloe McKain) Lindsey Beauboeuf, D.O. and the Consulate of Haiti in Boston.
I am grateful for everyone who came and spent the day with us at HKS and at the La Perle networking !
I am grateful that we could partner again with the Francophone Caucus at HKS, another organization I cofounded during my time at Harvard, to make all this happen again for the 3rd time. Thank you Jeanne Pidoux!
As the newly appointed Harvard Alumni Contact for Haiti by the Harvard Alumni Association, I am extremely proud of where this initiative is going and look forward to continue supporting the vision.
Last but REALLY NOT LEAST! Team WE DID IT! Marie Claire Milady Auguste, Marc R. Claude, Sari Saint-Hilaire, EdM, Sophia Bellegarde, MD, MBA, MLS (ASCP)CM, Eddie Charles, Donaldy E. Salvant, Winifred Ulysse, Moise Anilus Michelle Jean-Louis Jeslenard Victor.
I enjoyed walking through all the co organizers pressure with all of you and will do it a million times again.
THANK YOU for your service and for believing that together we can have a bigger impact in Haiti 🇭🇹!
See you next year!

Explainer video on science of why the 400m sprint is considered the most painful track & field event.
And why “no person on the planet can run the 400m all out from start to finish".
The race pushes the way the body creates energy to the limit:
▫️0-50 meters: ATP-CP (energy system for very short and explosive movements; used up after 5-10 seconds)
▫️50-200 meters: Anaerobic glycolysis (burns glucose without oxygen, leading to lactic acid buildup and muscle fatigue)
▫️200-300 meters: Aerobic energy (uses oxygen to break down glucose, but cannot keep up with the demand)
▫️300-400 meters: Anaerobic energy reserves tapped while aerobic energy is too slow to fill the gaps (lactic acid buildup is going HAM)
Track athletes can pace for longer distances and shorter ones are just over quicker (obvs).
The Olympic record is a blazing 43:03, set by South African runner Wayde van Niekerk in 2016 (and 2024 Final race is tomorrow).
