This is... absolutely off the mark. We believe in the death penalty (among other punishments!) for no other reason that we have an actual ontological basis for real justice, and we understand that actions have and must have consequences.
Majority of death penalty supporters are religious folk. Why? Because they believe the executed are going to Hell.
But… what if they’re not?
If there is no God and no Hell, then the next logical conclusion would be that they go to the infinite nothingness.
In that case, wouldn’t the death penalty be too…. easy? It’s not even a punishment at that point— it’s literally quicker than what many of their victims experienced. It’s just the easy way out… How is that justice?
