The seventh edition of our Top 100 Consumer AI Apps is here.
New this time: a revenue leaderboard, alongside the usual web and mobile traffic rankings.
Three years ago we published the first edition. ChatGPT was #1, Claude was unranked, and the entire category was chatbots, image generators, and not much else.
In today's edition:
- ChatGPT still holds the throne, now with 1B+ monthly actives on mobile
- Claude has climbed to #3 on web with nearly 1B monthly visits
- The category has expanded to vibe coding (Lovable, Cursor, Replit), music (Suno), design (Figma), voice (ElevenLabs), video (Higgsfield, Kling), agents (Manus), and even hardware (Plaud)

I made the launch video for @CueAgents
literally 24 hours before it launched.
All in @ManusAI Studio.
Got the brief at 9pm.
Boss: "Need a launch video tomorrow. You've got 24 hours."
Me: how am I supposed to pull this off??
A few hours of polishing in Manus later, it was done. I love how it turned out, especially the soundtrack and the little animations. Exactly the vibe.
The hard part of a launch video isn't making a video.
It's matching the brand tone and the brief. That takes a million small details.
Manus Studio already had all that context: our meeting notes, Notion, Slack, Figma, repos, and everything it remembers about how I work. It pulled it together and helped me shape the idea, the storyboard and the final cut.
It just passed 1.4M views. My second million-view video ever.
AI didn't replace my creativity. It multiplied it.
I've already started editing my vlogs in Manus too. So satisfying.

Well, I think I need to clarify this: Manus personal agent mode is not based on @openclaw. It is still built entirely on Manus's in-house architecture.
That said, I still believe it's necessary to pay respect to the OpenClaw project, because it further experimented with and helped shape the "safety boundary" between users and agents.
Exactly one year ago today, we were doing the final polishing before Manus's release. The problem that troubled us the most at the time was actually: How do you make users trust an agent? This isn't about the source code - it's about the uncertainty that comes with limitless possibility.
Back then, non-technical users, and really the entire world, had no concrete experience with AI agents. User education therefore fell onto a small startup. 😂
To address this, we designed four things:
* Cloud Sandbox: A fully isolated virtual machine is launched for each task so it cannot affect the user's own computer.
* Task Replay: You can replay tasks shared by others in read-only mode to safely explore what an agent is.
* Interruptible Action Chain: You can inspect the agent's step-by-step actions and interrupt or correct them on the fly.
* GUI Takeover: Whenever login or human intervention is required, the agent requests the user to take control of the browser, mouse, and keyboard.
These safety measures accompanied Manus through its first year. They allowed millions of users to experience a general agent for the first time, and eventually became standard features across agent products.
Times have changed. As agents complete tasks more reliably, run faster, models grow smarter, and users become more familiar with them, we believe it's time to move from "building trust" toward "lowering the barrier".
We are now doing this by:
* Reusing Manus's mature virtualization layer so users can use it without configuration.
* Introducing a new context-management system so users won't need to switch sessions in messengers.
* Using intelligent subagent scheduling to parallelize tasks while balancing speed and quality.
* Replacing more slash commands and menus with natural language.
This strongly aligns with our long-standing mission: To extend human reach. To put the full power of AI to work by unlocking the code, not just for engineers but for everyone.

The all new web dev experience are now fully rolled out and available to all users.
Behind it is still a unified general agent architecture, where every capability works together seamlessly: researching deeply to create sites, analyzing collected data, turning those insights into slides, and even emailing those slides to potential investors.
Beyond web dev, this update also brings significant improvements in speed, intelligence, and overall usability. More details in our latest announcement blog: manus.im/blog/manus-1.5-rele…
And as always, we're keeping our approach transparent. We recently shared a technical walkthrough on context engineering — including how features like unlimited context are implemented — in our latest webinar: youtu.be/6_BcCthVvb8

IMO, this may be the most interesting data from our @a16z top 100 AI apps report.
We looked at "Affinity Scores" for the top 6 most popular LLMs.
Ex. what other apps are you most likely to have if you're a Claude or Perplexity user?
This gave us mini-profiles of AI consumers 👇
- ChatGPT = entrepreneurs (Upwork, Mercury, Replit)
- Gemini = aspiring coders (HackerX, Programming Hub) - Perplexity = productivity maxers (Readwise, Claude, Arc)
- Claude = intellectuals (Snipd, Readwise, Monica)
- Deepseek = people in China 😂
- Grok = writers / students (Notewise, Grammar Check)
For the past two years, our team @a16z has pulled biannual data on the top 100 AI consumer websites and mobile apps.
But who is actually using these consumer AI apps? And what else do they spend time on?
We broke down the core demographics of AI users ⬇️
