This is not okay, no type of gun violence is acceptable. Guns should not be in the hands of dangerous individuals. Regardless of our opinions of people, this is tragic on all fronts.

In our multicenter retrospective study of 11 hospitals and 276 blunt renal #pediatrictrauma patients, there was wide variability in management within injury severity groups. Standardization of care may avoid unnecessary management strategies and benefit patients.

Firearm homicide happens at home in 2/3 of children under 12 - most commonly by parents, and associated with child abuse. Safe storage is not enough to prevent this. ERPO/DVRO policies and domestic violence screening may help. Amazing work by @JRookMD at #APSA25 @APSASurgeons – at Westmount, Québec
